After growing up in several countries, including six years in India, her motivation to participate in these types of projects around the world continued to develop. During her Bachelor’s in Social and Political Studies and International Relations at University College London, and her Master’s in International Political Economy at Sciences Po, Paris, she was involved with several associations and NGOs. After her studies, she joined the UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency) as an Associate Protection Officer in the Philippines and then came back to Geneva where she joined the Fondation pour Genève. She integrated OneAction during its first year of operation and has been working ever since to develop the organization and its projects.

Gemäss Mitteilung des UNHCR lebten Ende Juli 2014 76’263 Flüchtlinge und 22’200 Asylsuchende in Italien, denen gemäss den offiziellen italienischen Quellen lediglich 18’765 Plätze in den SPRAR und 6’006 Plätze in den CARA zur Verfügung standen. Zählen wir die 87’000 Flüchtlinge hinzu, die im ersten Halbjahr 2014 in Italien gestrandet sind und gemäss Dublin-Verordnung auch dort bleiben sollen, dann fehlten bereits vor einem halben Jahr Zehntausende Plätze.

Eurocommissaris Kristalina Georgieva heeft tijdens het Grand Bargain-proces meermaals benadrukt dat iedereen – dus zowel donoren als humanitaire organisaties - zich moet focussen op wat zijn (of haar) organisatie zelf kan doen, en niet op wat het niet kan doen, of wat de ander zou moeten doen. Dat neemt niet weg dat wat ‘de ander’ aangeeft te willen doen, wel degelijk van belang is en de basis zal zijn voor toekomstige evaluatie. Zo kijken de donoren uit naar hoe de internationale organisaties zullen meewerken aan gezamenlijke nodenanalyses. Deze moeten namelijk uitmonden in gezamenlijke responsplannen die vervolgens aan de donoren worden voorgelegd. Gedaan dus met de individuele plannen van WFP, UNHCR, UNICEF, etc. Dat moet alvast een aanzienlijke kostenbesparing opleveren.

Since its completion in 1926, the CWR has hosted numerous occupants and undergone several modifications and expansions. Within 10 years of its completion, the original CWR already proved too small and wings were added to the north and south. By 1957, two further wings completed the south quadrangle and a third floor was added on the north wing. From its completion in 1926 to 1975, the CWR hosted the ILO Headquarters and from 1977 the GATT, the UNHCR and the Graduate Institute of International Studies Library shared the current facilities. In 1995 the WTO became the main occupant of the CWR, but even at that time it was clear that the building was too small to accommodate all WTO staff. In fact, since its birth in 1995 the WTO has always had to rent additional space outside the CWR to house a large number of staff. From an organizational as well as efficiency point of view this situation is far from ideal and for staff as well as for our Members a single-site WTO is a more logical and practical solution for our space needs.

De hecho, desde que su creación en 1995, la OMC se ha visto siempre obligada a alquilar espacios adicionales fuera del CWR para alojar a un gran número de funcionarios. Tanto desde el punto de vista institucional como desde el de la eficiencia, esa situación dista de ser la ideal y, para el personal tanto como para los Miembros, el desempeño de las actividades en un único sitio de la OMC es una solución más lógica y práctica a las necesidades de espacio.

Nel suo discorso Manuel Bessler, che rappresentava la Svizzera in veste di delegato del Consiglio federale per l'Aiuto umanitario, ha affermato: «Durante le missioni nelle regioni colpite, come ad esempio nel Corno d'Africa, ho constatato che la migrazione transfrontaliera dovuta a catastrofi naturali rappresenta un fenomeno reale che negli ultimi anni è aumentato sensibilmente.»
