In 2006, Eaton recognized that the western edge of the Rackla belt had significant gold and tungsten geochemical anomalies in the government database. Exploration over the next four years led to the delineation of the Tiger zone, a limestone-hosted replacement-style gold deposit. While conducting reconnaissance geochemical surveys there three years later, though, the team recognized they were standing on a narrow band of largely Paleozoic carbonate rock: shelf margin rocks that extended some distance to the east. So, guided by a Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) interpretation that those rocks were similar to northeastern Nevada, and that all the creeks sampled by the GSC were anomalous for arsenic 100 kilometres to the east, in another isolated mountain range, they were soon looking east. “It didn’t discourage us that there were no gold anomalies in those creeks because we knew Carlin-type gold is typically so fine-grained it was going to continue to move downstream,” says Carne. They were confident that if they sampled further upstream, they would find the source of the GSC’s arsenic anomalies.

En 2006, M. Eaton a reconnu que la limite ouest de la ceinture de Rackla présentait des anomalies géochimiques importantes en or et en tungstène dans les bases de données gouvernementales. Dans les quatre années qui ont suivi, l’exploration a mené à la précision du tracé de la zone Tiger, un dépôt d’or de type remplacement dans un environnement calcaire. Mais en procédant à des relevés de reconnaissance géochimique trois ans plus tard, l’équipe a réalisé qu’elle se trouvait sur une fine bande de roche carbonate provenant en grande partie du paléozoïque : des roches marginales de sangle s’étendant quelque peu vers l’est. Alors, guidés par une interprétation de la Commission géologique du Canada (CGC) voulant que ces roches soient semblables à celles du nord-est du Nevada et sachant que les criques échantillonnées par la CGC présentaient une anomalie d’arsenic à 100 kilomètres à l’est, dans une autre chaîne de montagnes, leur regard s’est rapidement tourné vers l’est. « Le fait que ces criques ne présentaient pas d’anomalie d’or ne nous a pas découragés parce que nous savions que l’or de type Carlin est généralement si fin qu’il continuerait de s’écouler », précise M. Carne. Ils savaient que s’ils prenaient un échantillon en amont, ils trouveraient la source des anomalies d’arsenic repérées par la CGC.
