For monochrome photography with the X100, the designers have used the depiction performance of shooting monochrome in standard “PROVIA Mode” as a baseline and have provided the user with a choice of Ye (Yellow), R (Red) and G (Green) filter effects in order to express filter-enhanced tonality – one of the essential pleasures of monochrome photography. FUJIFILM asked photographers about what they wanted from a camera when shooting monochrome photography and heard comments like “I want to bring out the contrast between deep blue skies and the subject” and “I want to capture the sensuality of the deep red of a woman’s lips.” In order to respond to this desire to capture more impressive expression in monochrome photography, our design team realised that the answer was for X100 to provide monochrome expression that is equivalent to using filters.
