Soshi Matsunobe is a Japanese artist, who was born in 1988, Kumamoto. Since 2007 he has been taking part in different kinds of local and international solo and group exhibitions. There are three things which characterize his work the most and the artist calls them „multiplicity”, „applicability” and „variability”. The purpose of his work is to create something that wouldn’t be his any more, but a part of an active social dialogue.

Mākslas darbā izvietotie sensori uztver Daugavas viļņus, kas tiek pārvēsti grafiskā attēlā un digitālā kodā. Vēstījums tiek fiksēts binārā skaitīšanas sistēmā un ar piecu sekunžu intervālu iegūtie dati tiek pārveidoti grafiskā zīmē.
The sensors inserted into the work of art perceive the Daugava’s waves, which are then transformed into a graphic image and digital code. The message is recorded in a binary counting system and, at intervals of five seconds, the resultant data is transformed into a graphic sign, which is comprised of 27 individual elements, i.e. symbols of waves. This type of notation makes it possible not only to form a sign with actual content, but to turn it back into physical action.

Another highlight will be “Pulpit”, a multimedia art object created by Purvītis Prize nominee Kristaps Ģelzis, which premièred in 2013 at an exhibition in the garden of Riga Cathedral. The installation, which was created in collaboration with composer Ģirts Bišs, is seven metres high and is crowned by a ventilator, thus symbolising the release of sins and the opportunity to secure redemption. Thus, “Pulpit” offers redemption to every visitor, with the confession of sins being conducted by mobile phone.

Semināra noslēgumā tika secināts, ka Rīga, kā viduspunkts ne vien Baltijā, bet arī visā Baltijas jūras reģionā var kļūt par pilsētu, kurā reprezentēt reģiona laikmetīgās kultūras tendences, ik gadus rīkojot līdzīgas šī tīkla tikšanās.
At the conclusion of the seminar it was concluded that as the centre point not only of the Baltics, but also that of the entire Baltic Sea region, Riga can become the city in which to represent the region’s contemporary culture trends through the organisation of similar meetings of this network on an annual basis. Kaspara Teodora Bramberga atbilde iepriekšējām divām izstādēm (“Dynamis” (2014), galerijā “NOASS” un “The Flow”, (2016), koncertzālē “Lielais Dzintars”) projekts ‘”Relax’” transformējas no iedomāta telpiskuma uz reālu telpu.
Kaspars Teodors Brambergs’ answer to two previous exhibitions (Dynamis(2014) at NOASS Gallery and The Flow(2016) at the Great Amber Concert Hall), the project Relax is transformed from an imaginary to a real space. The abstract aspires to address the audience in descriptive terms. Brutal metal structures prompt one to think about a much more fragile and unstable substance based on pseudo-functionality. Possibly, the dispassionate humanisation of material. A multi-layered and concurrently laconic link between the elements of the object prompts one to model the comprehensible; to decipher the ostensible practicality of forms. Relaxopens up consciousness to interpretation, nevertheless leaving it undeciphered

Each drawing, no matter how ascetic it is in terms of its means of expression, is emotionally rich and includes a mechanism, which when touched, even ever so slightly, releases a coiled spring; a frozen world of lines unfurls and the clock begins to tick anew. Baiba Rubīne easily transcends the classic boundaries of technology, and as a result obtains images, which to some degree are comparable to traditional examples of painting. The exhibition will be augmented by a sound installation created by artists Andželika Kuzucuk and Edmunds Frīdvalds. Their performance can also be heard on the exhibition’s opening evening, 13 July at 19:00.”

Cologne Off is a festival that has evolved from the Cologne Online Festival, which for several years has operated as an Internet-based network which unites art curators and video artists from all over the world. In order not to lose the essence of the festival as a network, CologneOFF has become a travelling contemporary art event and throughout 2011 it has drawn the attention of visitors to video as a global art medium rapidly gaining in popularity which, utilising the opportunities provided by a communications network, reaches far beyond the borders of countries and regions. During Waterpieces, special attention will be paid to the moving image’s unlimited means of expression, particularly highlighting the contribution of artists and curators in promoting video art across the globe.

Since 2008, “Culture and Arts Project NOASS” has functioned as a EVS – European Volunteer Services sending and hosting organization, thus promoting the mobility of young people who are interested in cultural and arts events among various public organizations. Also, NOASS is registered in PADOR database which is managed by EuropeAid.  PADOR or “Potential Applicants Data Online Registration” is a recent applicant processing system introduced by European Commissions through EuropeAid to understand and maintain extensive information about NGOs requesting funds from it for collaboration projects with worldwide organizations.

“Rabbit” can be a little girl or a big man: rabbit or hare is a controversial creature. It is a symbol of procreation, continuation of the line, and it is also a spiritual creature. The Chinese considered The Hare to be an eternal animal, condemned to live on the Moon under cinnamon tree and pound in the mortar the Devine potion of immortality (The Immortal Powder). Karl Yung calls the Hare “the helpmate animal”, pointing out to the “not awaken one” the way to the Temple, and to “not enlightened one” – the way to revealing a mystery. The Hare is many sided, fickle and deceptive.

In the beginning, the celebration ‘Waterpieces’ was a journey, where each year in August a towboat would take the floating stage and the audience for a ride on the River Daugava. From time to time travellers would stop to view the panorama of Old Riga at night. Thus the artworks and the moving image were complemented with the enlightened spires of the Old Town and the artists’ created imaginary worlds that were displayed on screens would contrast with the impressive monolith movement of the dark river waters.

Izstāde veidota īpaši Eiropas Kultūras galvaspilsētas, Rīga 2014, projektam “STŪRA MĀJA. Lieta Nr. 1914/2014″. Vieta, kurā tā notiek, ir saistīta ar represijām daudzu desmitu gadu garumā,  un  stāsta pati par sevi.  Tieši tādēļ, iekārtojot ekspozīciju, būtiski netiks mainīts “Stūra mājas” sestā stāva kabinetu izskats vai izkārtojums, ļaujot sajust pašas ēkas nesto vēstījumu un stāstījumu.
The exhibition has been created especially for the “Corner House”. The place where it’s taking place is connected with repressions spanning many decades and tells its own story. For this very reason, in installing the exhibition, no significant changes will be made to the appearance or layout of the “Corner House’s” sixth floor cabinets, allowing viewers to sense the message and narrative conveyed by the building itself. In turn, the works in the exhibition will be positioned chronologically, allowing each of the works to address the viewer personally on a deeply human level without pathos or bravura, leaving a feeling of deep confusion, amazement, sincerity and pain.
