Aidan Lang said "It will be a wrench to leave Seattle Opera, as the company is known around the world for its enthusiastic and generous opera community, and the warm and welcoming atmosphere it creates for its artists. But Welsh National Opera is where my career in opera really began, and I have always considered it to be my artistic home. It was during my time there in the 1980s that I came to understand the potential for opera to change the way that people view the society they live in, and that insight has been at the core of all my work ever since. It is an incredible honour to be appointed as WNO’s next General Director, and I am hugely looking forward to working with Tomáš, the staff, Board, Chorus, Orchestra and the various technical crews who together make up this extraordinary company."

Dywedodd Aidan Lang: "Bydd hi’n anodd iawn gadael Cwmni Opera Seattle, gan fod y cwmni’n adnabyddus ar draws y byd am ei gymuned opera frwdfrydig a hael, a’r awyrgylch cynnes a chroesawgar mae’n ei greu i’w artistiaid. Ond yn Opera Cenedlaethol Cymru y gwnaeth fy ngyrfa opera ddechrau go iawn, ac yno rwyf wastad wedi ystyried fy nghartref creadigol. Yn ystod fy amser yno yn yr 1980au y deuthum i ddeall potensial opera fel modd i newid y ffordd y mae pobl yn ystyried y gymdeithas rydym yn byw ynddi, ac mae’r ddealltwriaeth honno wedi bod wrth wraidd fy holl waith byth ers hynny. Braint anhygoel yw cael fy mhenodi yn Gyfarwyddwr Cyffredinol nesaf WNO, ac rwy’n edrych ymlaen yn fawr at gael gweithio gyda Tomáš, y staff, y Bwrdd, y Corws, y Gerddorfa a’r amrywiol griwiau technegol sy’n ffurfio’r cwmni arbennig hwn."
