It is envisaged that the outcome of FNIHB Tool Box Description process will yield a compendium of health programs that will serve as the main building block for communities in the preparations of a flexible Community Health Plan. This heath plan will identify and quantify an optimal number of health programs needed to address the priorities in a community depending on the needs and resources available. The foregone phase will assist in the determination of tombstone and health status data to be reported through the Health Information System or by communities in their annual reports in order to show results or outcomes and could assist in identifying health status or the degree of wellness in a community by providing measurable indicators.

We are pleased to be able to deliver results to our growers and to provide the assurance that major regulatory barriers to developing NAFTA labeling have been resolved. This represents a significant milestone for both PMRA and U.S. EPA. We believe that the expansion of products under NAFTA labels will help remove potential trade barriers, help create a unified North American market for pesticides, and strengthen competitiveness of North American growers. The new label will serve as a model for other harmonized pesticides. Currently, 12 more pesticide products are in the pipeline for NAFTA label development.

Health Canada is in the process of developing an inspection strategy to be used for scheduling inspections of registered cells, tissues and organ (CTO) programs in Canada. The goal is to implement an inspection strategy in which a risk based approach would be used to determine the frequency of inspections. As part of the implementation process, Health Canada consulted with stakeholders from December 2011-February 2012. In total 15 stakeholders provided comments and suggestions and this report provides a summary of that feedback.

This document contains the scientific assessment of Ground Level Ozone effects on human health, vegetation, materials and animals. The document was prepared primarily as a compilation of the Canadian 1996 NOx/VOC Science Assessment Reports2. Consequently, background sections of the document, included to provide contextual information for understanding the material on effects, have not been updated since publication of the NOxVOC reports. The information on health and environmental effects was augmented by a review of the most recent peer-reviewed and publicly available literature, current to mid-1997. The issue of the human health effects of ozone is, in particular, a field of inquiry that is evolving rapidly. The document itself has been externally peer-reviewed. Although prepared in support of revisions to the current NAAQOs for ground level ozone, this document will be used as scientific support for the development of Canada Wide Standards for ground-level ozone.

Many factors contribute to corrosion and the leaching of contaminants from drinking water distribution systems. The principal factors are the type of materials used, the age of the plumbing system, the stagnation time of the water and the quality of the water in the system, including its pH. Metal leaching will be affected differently by each of these factors. Using lead as a trigger to initiate corrosion control programs in a drinking water distribution system, action levels have been developed for both residential and non-residential buildings. The implementation of these action levels is expected to help drinking water suppliers determine the source of lead and use corrosion control to reduce its concentration. Residential monitoring will seek to identify sources of lead in both the distribution system and the residential plumbing, whereas non-residential monitoring will focus primarily on the source of lead within the building.

The first step in implementing a drinking water program is to identify water to be used as the source of drinking water. At this stage, an assessment should be made of the potential risks associated with the source. Risks could include wildlife in a watershed, recreational activities such as boating in a reservoir, wastewater treatment plants nearby, agricultural or industrial activities, etc. The system should be designed to minimize the impact of the risks over time. The characteristics of the source water - including physical (such as aquifer characteristics for groundwater sources), microbiological and chemical parameters, and the types of natural and anthropogenic contaminants present - determine the type of treatment required in order to deliver the cleanest, safest, most reliable drinking water to the public. Wherever possible, the system chosen should also be capable of being adapted to deal with unforeseen contaminants.

This group is also researching the potential environmental and human health impacts of these products and existing non-regulatory initiatives that may reduce their release into the environment, such as 'take-back programs' offered by some pharmacies where customers can return unused pharmaceuticals for proper disposal. This research will be used to analyse what additional non-regulatory initiatives or improvements to existing non-regulatory initiatives may be required.

As highlighted in the above chart, Health Canada has identified eight health and well-being issues, and their related vulnerabilities which need to be assessed to protect the health of Canadians from the possible effects of climate change. As part of this effort, in March 2001, Health Canada hosted, in partnership with the Canadian Climate Impacts and Adaptation Research Network (C-CIARN) of Natural Resources Canada, the First Annual National Health and Climate Change Science and Policy Research Consensus Conference involving a wide spectrum of national and international researchers and policy analysts. By identifying current gaps in knowledge the conference produced a climate change and health research agenda to guide future scientific efforts. Additional future climate change and health & well-beingconferences on research and policy will enhance the ability of all jurisdictions in Canada to address the risks to the public associated with climate change.

Illicit Market Value - The illicit market value of a drug is an indication as to whether or not this drug has a high probability of being stolen. Appendix B contains the illicit price of drugs which the Bureau will be using in determining the type of security required at a licensed dealer. These values are a composite of the price paid in various parts of the country and the price paid at various stages of supply in the illicit market. To simplify this list, one price applies to all drugs in that range.
