On 12-14 December 2012 in Trieste RGSL is taking part in the first meeting of the two-year European Commission-funded QUALETRA project aimed at improving the quality of legal translation, with main focus on criminal proceedings. The project, launched on 19 November 2012, involves a consortium of national institutions from seven EU Member States (Belgium, Ireland, Italy, France, Latvia, Spain, the United Kingdom) as well as three European organizations representing translators (1) and European bar associations (2) delegating members from other Member States such as Portugal, Poland and Finland.

With the assistance of Professor and Judge of the European Court of Human Rights Ineta Ziemele this discussion will introduce a series of events on the Latvian tradition and contemporary issues in different fields of international law. The law of State responsibility addresses the legal consequences of breaching international law, among other things explaining the commission of an internationally wrongful act, right of States to ask for the cessation of the wrongful act and the obligation of States to provide compensation. Clear statement of the content of the rules on State responsibility is of great theoretical importance for the development of the science of international law. It is also of considerable practical importance in international litigations.
