À l’Institut Armand-Frappier, l’equipe multidisciplinaire du Pr. Calmettes utilise les méthodes de biologie moléculaire, biochimie, microbiologie et biologie structurale pour étudier la relation structure-fonction des protéines.
At the Armand-Frappier Institute, Prof. Calmettes’ multidisciplinary team uses molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology and structural biology methods to study the structure-function relationship of proteins. Research in the laboratory aims to improve our understanding of the physiological mechanisms of the bacterial envelope to ultimately improve our therapeutic arsenal against infectious bacteria.

Dr. Charles Calmettes obtained his B.Sc. in Biochemistry from Paul Sabatier University (Toulouse, France, 2002), then completed his M.Sc. in Biochemistry (2004) and his Ph.D. in Nanobiology and Structural Biology (2008) at Joseph Fourier University (Grenoble, France). He completed his first postdoctoral fellowship at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research with Prof. Frank Kozielski (2009, Glasgow, UK) before joining Professor Trevor Moraes’ lab at the University of Toronto (2010-2016) to perform a second postdoctoral fellowship in crystallography of membrane proteins. Dr. Charles Calmettes joined the faculty of the INRS Institut Armand-Frappier in 2016.

Dr Jenabian has earned his D.V.M. degree in “Veterinary Medicine” in 2003 in Iran. He then began Ph.D. studies in “Virology” (2005-2009) at the University of Pierre & Marie Curie and the European George Pompidou Hospital in Paris under the supervision of Prof. L. Bélec, where he developed an expertise in anti-HIV mucosal immune responses. During his first postdoctoral training (2009-2011), he furthered his expertise in “HIV fundamental Immunology” at INSERM U955 in Paris, as a member of the team of Prof. Y. Levy. Dr Jenabian’s research on HIV T-cell immunology and Tregs resulted in high impact findings in immuno-regulation in HIV patients. He also performed a second postdoctoral training at the research institute of the McGill University Health Centre (2011-2014) in “HIV clinical Immunology” with Prof J-P Routy, where he studied inflammation and immune reconstitution following HIV immunotherapies. He is now a faculty member at the Department of Biological Sciences at UQAM and the BioMed research center (since September 2014) and he is conducting his translational research program focusing on the molecular mechanisms of plasticity and functions of regulatory T cells (Tregs) during HIV infection.
