For some animals a slatted or mesh floor is preferable, in order that urine and excreta may be trampled through by the animals and fall into the liquid-proof trays beneath the floor. The dimensions of the slats, and the spacing between them, will be governed by the species of animal to be housed; the spacing should be such that there is no possibility of the animals' feet being trapped.
