Vor 20 Jahren, am 13. März 1986, flog die Weltraumsonde Giotto am Kometen Halley vorbei. Was waren aus heutiger Sicht die wichtigsten Ergebnisse? Komet Halley ist ein relativ heller Komet. Wenn er sich in Sonnen- und Erdnähe befindet, ist er normalerweise mit bloßem Auge zu sehen.

Während des "Commissioning" der ESA-Mission Rosetta, die am 2. März 2004 gestartet wurde und im Jahr 2014 den Kometen Churyumov-Gerasimenko besuchen wird, hat die unter Leitung des MPS gebaute Kamera OSIRIS erste Bilder eines Kometen aufgenommen.

During the commissioning phase of ESA's ROSETTA mission, which was launched on 2nd March 2004 and will visit comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko in 2014, the camera OSIRIS has acquired first images of a comet. The comet 2002 T7 (LINEAR) was observed on 1 May 2004 from a distance of about 98 million kilometers. OSIRIS was built by a consortium lead by MPS. [more]
