W XIII wieku otrzymała monumentalne drewniane odrzwia (rzeźby Buviny) i kamienną ambonę. Katedra przykryta jest kopułą, wewnątrz której niegdyś znajdowała się piękna mozaika. Główny ołtarz pochodzi z XVII wieku.

The Cathedral of Saint Domnius (Croatian: Katedrala Svetog Duje), known locally as the Saint Dujam (Sveti Dujam) or colloquially Saint Duje (Sveti Duje), is the Catholic cathedral in Split, Croatia. The cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska, headed by Archbishop Marin Barišić. The Cathedral of St. Domnius is a complex of a church, formed from an Imperial Roman mausoleum, with a bell tower; strictly the church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the bell tower to Saint Domnius. Together they form the Cathedral of St. Domnius.The Cathedral of Saint Domnius, consecrated at the turn of the 7th century AD, is regarded as the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world that remains in use in its original structure, without near-complete renovation at a later date (though the bell tower dates from the 12th century).

Les vantaux de la porte d'entrée sont ornés de 28 sculptures sur bois (1214), représentant des scènes de la vie du Christ de l'Annonciation à l'Ascension. Elles furent sculptées par Andrija Buvina. Un document d'archives, Historia Salontina, Codex Papali, mentionnant l'installation des vantaux le 23 avril 1214 est conservé à Budapest, Menzeti Muzeum. Des colonnes rapportés d'Égypte à la demande de Dioclétien au IIIe siècle, ornent l'intérieur de la cathédrale. L'art chrétien est principalement représenté par la présence d'une chaire romane (XIIIe siècle), de deux autels, dédiés aux saints patrons de la ville, à savoir saint Domnius et saint Anastase, ainsi que par un trésor d'une grande richesse (buste-reliquaire, art sacré, manuscrits précieux…).

Die heutige Kathedrale von Split wurde ursprünglich als Mausoleum Kaiser Diokletians erbaut. Unmittelbar nach dessen Tod, im Jahre 313, räumte die Mailänder Vereinbarung allen Christen das Recht der freien Religionsausübung ein: „sowohl den Christen als auch überhaupt allen Menschen freie Vollmacht, der Religion anzuhängen, die ein jeder für sich wählt“. Die Christen erbauten darauf in Salona, dem damaligen administrativen Zentrum der Provinz Dalmatia unweit von Split, mehrere Basiliken auf Gräbern christlicher Märtyrer, die zu Zentren des Heiligenkults wurden und viele Pilger anzogen.

Splitska katedrala posvećena je Uznesenju Blažene Djevice Marije, u narodu je poznata kao Katedrala sv. Dujma (sv. Duje). Katedrala je smještena u kompleksu Dioklecijanove palače u Splitu, na Peristilu i prvotno je bila carski mauzolej, sagrađen početkom 4. stoljeća. Katedrala sv. Duje najstarija je katedrala u svijetu. Današnja splitska katedrala izgrađena je u 4. stoljeću kao mauzolej rimskog cara Dioklecijana († 316.). Uoči careve smrti, Milanskim ediktom 313.
