The duties of the Senate are governed by the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Constitution of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB). They include the approval of the election of the members of the Rectorate, the statement on the Rectorate’s business report, the adoption and amendment of the constitutional structure, and other framework regulations and ordinances (statutes) of the university, recommendations and statements on the draft of the University Development Plan and target setting in accordance with § 6 para. 2 of the Higher Education Act (in consultation with the Rectorate), recommendations and statements on the evaluation reports, the business plan, the principles of distribution of vacant positions and funds among the faculties, the academic institutions, central operating units, other academic institutions and medical facilities, and the auditing of the annual accounts.
