6.1 CA accepts the deposit of archives, irrespective of age, in all formats including but not limited to paper, parchment, audio and video cassette, film, microfilm/fiche, photographs, glass plate negatives and lantern slides and digital formats including but not limited to the carrier media of DVD/CD Rom, floppy disk, email, and memory sticks. It reserves the right to transfer items created in an unstable medium to a more stable medium, seeking where possible to preserve the original medium as metadata. It also reserves the right to transfer material created in an unstable medium to another repository where it may be better preserved and curated.

Log books of individual schools may mention pupils by name, but more likely to be useful are the registers of admission, progress and withdrawal, which notes the date of birth (or age) of a pupil, the date he or she entered school, the name and address of the parent or guardian and the date of leaving school. Both these records are held at the Archives. Please note that admission registers and log books are closed for 100 years.

4.4 We preserve, care for and procure archive conservation work on the archive collections in accordance with our Collections Care and Conservation Policy. We follow the guidance in PD5454: 2012, Guide for the storage and exhibition of archival materials and the Specification for managing environmental conditions for cultural collections PAS198:2012. Conservation is essential to the long-term survival and accessibility of the archive collections. Ceredigion Archives does not have an in-house conservator but all conservation is procured from trained and qualified and/or accredited conservators.

9.1 Archives are accepted on the presumption that the depositor is willing for them to be made available for public consultation within a reasonable period of time (within the context of relevant legislation). CA will publicise every new acquisition, and advise on any restrictions to access. Catalogues will be made available online and supplied to depositors and The National Archives’ Discovery service.

These can contain notices of births, marriages and deaths, and occasionally longer and more detailed reports of weddings, funerals, anniversaries and obituaries. The Archives has a complete set of issues of the Cardigan and Tivyside Advertiser from 1866, indexed to 1980, mostly by place name and subject, rather than by personal names. We hold the following copies of the Cambrian News: 1871-3, 1880, 1882-5, 1887-9, 1891-4, 1896-9, 1900-4, 1905-8. 1910-1, 1916, 1918, 1923-4, 1953, 1964, 1970-date, with some issues missing.

Aberystwyth underwent a period of expansion and rebuilding in the late 19th – early 20th century. Even though planning laws were less stringent then than now, one still had to submit an application, accompanied by a plan (usually drawn by an architect) to the planning authority - Aberystwyth Borough's Building Control Department – for approval. Many of these plans have survived and a list is now available. They range from plans for entirely new houses – such as the Edwardian red brick terraces around Stanley Road – to extensions, new bathrooms and even a 'conversion of stable into a motor garage'!
