On 23 August, Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard will travel to Geneva to welcome the Board members. At its first meeting, the Board will decide on the process to select the host of the new institution's secretariat from among the six countries that have expressed an interest. Ambassador Jürg Lauber, head of the United Nations and International Organisations Division at the Department of Foreign Affairs, will present the advantages of Geneva, Switzerland's candidate, to the Board. The city hosts the headquarters of many international organisations and non-governmental organisations, and along with the Lake Geneva region is a major hub of international environmental policy. The institutional and geographical concentration of organisations involved in related activities brings a further advantage in terms of greater efficiency. Five other states have also submitted their candidacy: Germany, Mexico, Namibia, Poland and South Korea. The final decision will be taken at the next climate conference in Qatar, in November 2012.

Le 23 août, la conseillère fédérale Doris Leuthard se rendra à Genève pour souhaiter la bienvenue aux membres du conseil exécutif. Lors de sa première séance, le conseil exécutif décidera sur la procédure de sélection des six candidatures déposées par les Etats intéressés à accueillir le siège du secrétariat permanent de la nouvelle institution. L'Ambassadeur Jürg Lauber, chef de la division Nations Unies et organisations internationales au DFAE, présentera devant le conseil les avantages de Genève, candidate pour la Suisse. Siège de nombreuses organisations internationales et organisations non gouvernementales, la ville de Genève et la région lémanique constituent un pôle majeur de la politique environnementale internationale. La concentration institutionnelle et géographique des organisations aux activités connexes est judicieuse et permettrait de gagner en efficacité. Cinq autres Etats ont aussi déposé une candidature: l'Allemagne, le Mexique, la Namibie, la Pologne et la Corée du sud. La décision finale sera prise lors de la prochaine conférence sur le climat au Qatar, en novembre 2012.
