En octobre 2009, l’ACSP a été approchée et invitée à adhérer à la campagne DPT, puis à siéger au Comité de la campagne. Le conseil d’administration a donné son appui en décembre 2009, et a accepté de siéger au sein de ce comité de 14 membres.

In October 2009, CPHA was approached and invited to endorse the DFA and take a seat on the campaign committee. The Board of Directors endorsed the campaign in December 2009, and CPHA sits on the 14-member campaign committee. As of late January 2010, 283 organizations and institutions have endorsed the campaign, as well as 40 federal MPs, 3 Senators and 6 provincial/territorial politicians.

More than 30 organizations participated in the first of a series of policy summits led by the DfA Campaign on March 3rd and 4th, 2011 in Ottawa to initiate the development of a model for a federal plan to eliminate poverty in Canada. The March 2011 Summit explored and built consensus on what should be included within a federal plan to address the issues of housing and early childhood education and care (ECEC).

The DFA is widely recognized for its role in raising awareness about poverty in Canada and striving for change at the federal level. It is advocating for a federal plan for poverty elimination as well as a federal anti-poverty act that ensures commitment, accountability, and sufficient federal investment towards ensuring social security for all Canadians. These goals strongly align with CPHA’s commitment to reduce health inequities and advocate for healthy public policies.

In December 2009, the CPHA Board of Directors endorsed CPHA’s involvement in the Dignity for All (DfA) Campaign for a Poverty-Free Canada and participation as a member of the campaign’s planning committee. This campaign calls for vigorous and sustained action by the federal government to combat the structural causes of poverty in Canada. The campaign is consistent with CPHA’s 2008 Call to Action to address the social determinants of health and health equity.
