The history of the Mondariz brand dates back to the Roman Empire and even to the Celtic period when people enjoyed the very healthy properties of what was known, at that time, as the town of “Búrbida”: a recommendable place of rest. The year 1864 marked a turning point when two doctors analysed the water that flows from a spring on the banks of the River Tea and they concluded that it had medicinal mineral qualities that improve some diseases (dyspepsia, digestive problems or gallstones, among others). Nine years later, in 1873, the brothers Enrique and Ramón Peinador managed to get the water Declared of Public Interest.
