The NEB is a really excellent employer. I would say to the young crowd, don't be scared to take risks, to take chances and try new ideas. There's always room for progress and improvements.

I would like to congratulate the National Energy Board of Canada on its 50th anniversary. Like all regulators, the National Energy Board plays a role that will become very, very important as environmental and social issues take on ever greater significance, including the protection of the public interest in a number of areas. This is why a Board like the NEB and other regulators are so important, and why we need groups like AQLPA to help regulators defend the public interest and have positive economic impacts as well.

I have one little story to share: when I joined the Board, one of the first things I had to learn was to work with the archaic computers available in those days. There were no laptops or workstations and we had to go work in a room full of electronic equipment. It was quite impressive! There were a few keyboards and I remember during my first training session I messed up so bad that I had to stop and start over again the next day because the procedures we had to follow were so precise. I was so impressed by all this new technology that I literally froze! But the next day, I started again. Computers are now everyday tools, but in those days, they were really revolutionary. I'll always remember that incident - my first contact with the high-tech world of computers. I'd like to say hi to everyone and happy anniversary to everyone at the Board, new and old alike.
