The closing date for submitting projects seeking co-funding as part of DYNALP² expired on June 29. DYNALP² is a project launched by the Alliance in the Alps network of municipalities in 2006 and it is being financed by the MAVA Foundation for Nature Conservation.

The Alp Week 2012 is being held as part of Switzerland's presidency of the Alpine Convention. The 50th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Alpine Convention is also set to take place at the Alpine Week along with the 12th Alpine Conference, at which the environment ministers of the Alpine States are to formulate the guidelines of a joint Alpine policy.

La troisième édition de la Semaine alpine en 2012 se déroulera dans le cadre de la présidence suisse de la Convention alpine. Communities from throughout the Alpine region which are members of the network of communities were able to submit applications for projects that address the six topic areas of Future in the Alps. 40 candidatures were received, with 15 to 20 expected to receive approval for co-financing.

La Journée internationale de la montagne est donc l'occasion de lancer un appel général pour amener le développement touristique vers un "tourisme durable", afin de lutter contre la pauvreté dans les régions de montagne. Un groupe de travail de l'Organisation des Nations Unies pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture (FAO) coordonne les actions lancées dans le monde entier pour la Journée internationale de la montagne et met du matériel d'information à disposition.

Tourismus im Sinne von "nachhaltigem Tourismus" erfüllt hingegen die Bedürfnisse sowohl der Touristen als auch der Berggemeinden. Der Internationale Tag der Berge ist daher ein Aufruf an alle, die Tourismusentwicklung hin zu einem "nachhaltigen Tourismus" zu lenken, um auf diesem Weg auch die Armut in Berggebieten zu bekämpfen. Eine Arbeitsgruppe der Welternährungsorganisation FAO koordiniert weltweit Aktionen des Internationalen Tags der Berge und stellt Informationsmaterial zur Verfügung.
