Joe naquit à Binghamton, dans l’état de New-York. Il servit dans l’armée américaine pendant la Deuxième Guerre mondiale et prit part à la bataille des Ardennes. C’était un photographe et un artiste internationalement reconnu, avec des œuvres dans de nombreux musées et collections privées aux États-Unis et en Europe.

Joseph A. Buemi (b. 1923, d. 2007). Joe was born in Binghamton, New York. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was an artist and internationally recognized photographer, with photographs in many museums and private collections in the United States and Europe. Locally he taught photography, exhibited and judged photo competitions, and an extensive collection of his photographs and papers are in the collection of the Broome County Historical Society, in Binghamton. Buemi wrote in his Personal Statement and Technical Notes, “Photographically speaking, I pause to admit there are sensations impossible to bring forth to full substance.

Widely promoted by Parisian Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, the leading painter of the Barbizon school in the mid-nineteenth century, the forest of Fontainebleau famously attracted and inspired artist and photographers alike. Used both as a retreat and source of inspiration, Fontainebleau appeared as the subject matter in innumerable paintings and photographs that were visions of the elegance and simplicity of the Forest. Artists sought to emphasize the importance of Nature, rather than subjugate her to the background of an animated scene.
