Over the past 15 years, Switzerland has returned more than CHF 1.7 billion to countries that have been plundered by politically exposed persons such as Sani Abacha, Ferdinand Marcos and Vladimiro Montesinos. This situation is a result both of the quality of the set of legal instruments based on international assistance at its disposal and the political will to prevent Switzerland from becoming a safe haven for the proceeds of the illegal activities of corrupt officials. Switzerland now leads the world in restoring plundered assets to the countries of origin concerned.

Au cours des quinze dernières années, la Suisse a restitué plus de CHF 1,7 milliard aux pays spoliés par des personnes politiquement exposées comme Sani Abacha, Ferdinand Marcos ou Vladimiro Montesinos. Ce résultat est dû à la qualité de son dispositif légal fondé sur l'entraide internationale et à sa volonté politique d'éviter que la Suisse ne serve de refuge à l'argent des hommes politiques corrompus. Ce résultat positionne ainsi la Suisse comme le leader mondial dans ce domaine.

Die Schweiz hat in den letzten fünfzehn Jahren über 1,7 Milliarden Franken, die von politisch exponierten Personen wie Sani Abacha, Ferdinand Marcos oder Vladimiro Montesinos veruntreut wurden, an die Herkunftsländer zurückerstattet. Möglich war dies dank unseres guten Rechtssystems, das auf der internationalen Rechtshilfe beruht, und dank des politischen Willens der Schweiz zu verhindern, dass unser Finanzplatz als Zufluchtsort für Gelder von korrupten Politikerinnen und Politikern missbraucht wird. Damit hat die Schweiz weltweit eine führende Rolle in diesem Bereich übernommen.
