BFI/RIBA organize a film season to celebrate the RIBA’s 175th anniversary called "Of Dreams and Cities: Architecture in Film". Several films will be shown from 30 October to 29 November 2009: "L'Eclisse", by Michelangelo Antonioni, is one of these. Set in Rome and its 1950s suburbs, initially developed for the Esposizione Universale di Roma (EUR), L’Eclisse is the story of a couple’s doomed affair and an occasion for Antonioni to return to his favourite themes: individual and societal alienation and the difficulty of finding connections in an increasingly mechanized world. L’Eclisse completes Antonioni’s film trilogy (started with L’Avventura and La Notte) reaching the apotheosis of his modernist style. This screening will be introduced by the eminent Italian architect Claudio Silvestrin, who practices in Milan and London. The work of the practices encompasses real estate development, newly built houses and resorts for private residence, art galleries and museums, domestic and retail interiors and furniture design. Giorgio Armani, Illycaffé, Anish Kapoor, Calvin Klein, Poltrona Frau, Victoria Miro, the "Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo" and internationally acclaimed rap artist Kanye West are among its regular customers. L’Eclisse will also screen on Sunday 15 November at 20.30 in NFT3. For more information about the event, please visit www.bfi.org.uk/southbank Photo by the courtesy of BFI
