This castle is particularly popular and absolutely deserves to be visited. Instead of a little farm, the baron Franz S. Von Unterrichter had this castle built in the mid 19th century. In this period of time he already beared the title of nobility “von Rechtenthal”.

Die südlich geprägte Landschaft aus Weinhügeln, an denen auch Zypressen, Feigen, Zitronen und Oliven zu sehen sind, steht im Kontrast zum Monte Roen (2.113 m), der hoch ober der Ortschaft thront. Nördlich des Zentrums fließt der Höllentalbach vom Roen ins Etschtal hinab. In diesem Ortsteil befinden sich auch einige Sehenswürdigkeiten, wie z.B. Kastelaz oder Schloss Rechtenthal. Das Schloss ist sehr bekannt und auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Anstelle eines kleinen Bauernhofes ließ der Baron Franz S. Von Unterrichter aus Kaltern, welcher bereits das Adelsprädikat “von Rechtenthal” trug, Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts dieses Schloss erbauen. Im Jahre 1998, in Folge von Renovierungsarbeiten, eröffnete hier das Land Südtirol eine Weiterbildungsakademie für Lehrer. Doch auch zahlreiche Veranstaltungen finden heute in den antiken Gemäuern statt.

Caratterizzato dal clima mite del sud, il paesaggio si presenta con dolci colline, sulle quali crescono piante mediterranee come limoni, fichi, ulivi e cipressi, in contrasto con il maestoso Monte Roen (2.113 m), il quale s’innalza dietro il paese. A nord del centro del paese scende scrosciante il rio della Valle dell’Inferno (Höllentalbach) dal Monte Roen a valle. E proprio in questa zona del paese troviamo anche alcune attrazioni, come per esempio Castelaz o il Castello Rechtenthal. Questo castello è molto famoso e consigliamo assolutamente una visita. Al posto di un piccolo maso, il barone Franz S. Von Unterrichter di Caldaro, il quale portava già il titolo nobiliare “Von Rechtenthal”, fece costruire verso la metà del XIX secolo questo castello. Nel 1998, di seguito a lavori di ristrutturazione, la provincia ha creato uno spazio nuovo destinato ad ospitare corsi, convegni e manifestazioni varie per la formazione e l’educazione permanente del personale docente.
