Only within the last few years has a holistic revitalisation vision of Psie Pole emerged. The actions have been spread out in time and divided into several stages. They included the renovation of all elevations, filling in the gaps in the urban tissue, redirecting transport routes to eliminate car traffic from the town square, and redeveloping the square itself. The new surface of the square is made of large stone slabs that guarantee high comfort of use, and supplemented with greenery. The roadways are made from recycled stone material. In terms of colour, the grey granite from Strzegom is softened with the pink of the Spanish Rosa Porrino and dark syenite. In order to highlight the open, friendly character of the space and emphasise its less official functions, the surface includes areas for different activities – a chess board, a fountain, a spring with current water, and numerous benches. The dominant compositional feature is the fountain, shaped as descending steps and inviting people to step down, play with water and hang out – in other words, it provides an open scene for the theatre of urban life. This fact is symbolically marked by sculptures depicting the actors – a boy and a girl looking at each other through the water. In this way, a symbolic “meeting place” has been created. The area also contains figures of three dogs, presented as a spatial emblem of Psie Pole that simultaneously attracts the youngest visitors, provides an attractive background to photographs and informs about the friendly character of the venue, thus breaking the negative associations with “a dog’s life” in Psie Pole.
