He took Switzerland to the 2016 European Championship and in statistical terms, he is the most successful national coach in history with 65 points in 32 matches. Prior to this, Petkovic, who is a dual citizen of Switzerland and Croatia, coached for Lazio Rome (Cup victory), Samsunspor as well as FC Sion, YB, and various clubs in Ticino.

Il a conduit la Suisse au Championnat d’Europe 2016 et, avec 65 points et 32 matchs, il est statistiquement le meilleur entraîneur national de l’histoire. Auparavant, l’homme à la double nationalité suisse et croate s’était occupé de la Lazio de Rome (victoire de la Coupe), de Samsunspor ainsi que du FC Sion, des Young Boys et de différents clubs tessinois. Il est marié et père de deux filles, désormais adultes. Il vit à Locarno.
