Bet you didn't know you shared a common ancestor with the bat. Yes, human hands, bat wings and whale flippers all evolved from the forelimb of the first mammal. Mammals share the same ancestor. Our shared ancestry can be seen in the bones of our forelimbs. One of the earliest mammals was the shrew-like Morganucodon. We have created a model of a generalized early mammal based on Morganucodon. This generalized mammal helps us illustrate how forelimbs as diverse in form and function as those of the bat, whale and human may have evolved.
