The outcome was magnificent: the old-Flemish home was extended with a studio, a garden pavilion and a semi-circular sculpture museum with a dome. A magnificent portico connected the existing house with the new studio as well as offering a beautiful view of the courtyard garden and the garden pavilion. Rubens may have only put his ideas about architecture into practice once in his life but it is apparent that he was a great connoisseur of architecture.

Le résultat est à la mesure de ses espérances : la maison en style ancien flamand s’agrandit d’une galerie de statues semi-circulaire sous coupole, d’un atelier de peintre et d’un pavillon de jardin. Un impressionnant portique relie la maison et l’atelier et offre une magnifique perspective sur le jardin et le pavillon. Rubens ne traduit qu’une seule fois ses conceptions de l’architecture dans la pratique, mais il réalise un coup de maître et se révèle grand connaisseur en architecture.

Das Ergebnis der Renovierung kann sich sehen lassen: Das Wohnhaus im altflämischen Stil wurde mit einem halbrunden überkuppelten Skulpturenmuseum, einem Maleratelier und einem Gartenpavillon erweitert. Ein imposanter Torbogen verbindet das bestehende Wohnhaus mit dem neuen Atelier und bietet einen schönen Blick auf den Garten und den Gartenpavillon. Rubens hat seine Auffassung von Baukunst zwar nur ein einziges Mal in die Praxis umgesetzt, war aber ganz offensichtlich ein ausgezeichneter Architekturkenner.
