Gadawodd Callaghan yr ysgol yn 14 oed, a gweithiodd fel swyddog treth yng Nghaerdydd, ac yna'n swyddog undeb. Ymunodd â'r llynges yn yr Ail Ryfel Byd, ac etholwyd ef yn Aelod Seneddol Llafur dros Dde Caerdydd ym 1945.
Callaghan left school at 14, and found employment as a tax officer, and then as a union official in Cardiff. He joined the Navy in the Second World War, and was elected Labour MP for Cardiff South in the Labour landslide victory of 1945. He stood for the party leadership in 1963 after the death of Hugh Gaitskell, but lost to Harold Wilson. Wilson however appointed him Chancellor of the exchequer when Labour won the election in 1964, but after the devaluation of the pound, he was moved to become Home Secretary. He also served as Foreign Secretary between 1974 and 1976 during Harold Wilson's second period as Prime Minister. After Wilson's retirement in 1976, he became Prime Minister, making him the only British politician to have held all four top posts in government. He resigned as Labour Party leader in 1980, after the defeat of the Labour Party in the 1979 general election, but served as an MP until 1987, when he became a life peer, and took up a seat in the House of Lords. These cartoons refer to James Callaghan's taxation and spending policies while he was Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Ganwyd Hitler yn Awstria, ond gwirfoddolodd i Fyddin yr Almaen yn ystod y Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf. Wedi'r rhyfel daeth syniadau asgell dde Hitler yn fwy poblogaidd, ac ym 1921 fe ddaeth yn arweinydd y NASDP, a adnabyddid yn ddiweddarach fel plaid y Natsïaid.
Born in Austria, Hitler volunteered to join the German army during the First World War, during which he was highly decorated. After Germany's defeat, his right wing ideas became more appealing, and in 1921 he became leader of the NASDP, later nicknamed the Nazi party. Hitler became Chancellor in 1933, and led Germany to a policy of lebenstraum, or expansion. His invasion of Poland in 1939 led to the outbreak of the Second World War, and during the next two years his army was succesful in occupying many European countries. Hitler committed suicide just before the end of the war in 1945, when the allies were advancing towards Berlin.

Mae'n debyg fod y darlun dyfrlliw wedi'i baentio yn 1796-7 yn seiliedig ar luniad a wnaeth Turner pan ar ymweliad â de Cymru ym misoedd Mehefin a Gorffennaf yn 1795. Ar un o dudalennau'r llyfr lluniadu o dde Cymru mae Turner yn rhestru'r gweithiau y cafodd gomisiwn i'w gwneud.
This watercolour was probably painted in 1796-7 based on a drawing made by Turner during a visit to south Wales in June and July of 1795. In one of the drawing books from south Wales Turner lists the various works he had been commissioned to do. One of them is a picture of Aberdulais for a certain "Mr. Mitchell". The same person had also commissioned a picture of Llandeilo bridge. Today that picture forms part of the collections of the National Muse

Cychwynnodd Logan a'i gyd-deithwyr de Rottermond, Murray, Stevens a phump o Indiaid, mewn canod o Gaspé i fyny afon St Lawrence at Cape Chatte, yna i'r tir dros y bryniau Shick Shock at Fae Chaleur. The second volume, 31 May - 4 November 1844, with a dozen blank pages between 12 and 28 September, describes further explorations of the Gaspé Peninsula. Logan, accompanied by de Rottermond, Murray, Stevens and five Indians, proceeded by canoe from Gaspé up the St Lawrence River to Cape Chatte, then inland over the Shick Shock hills to Bay Chaleur. From around 6 September to 7 October, when they crossed the estuary to Dalhousie on the New Brunswick side, seems to have been spent on the northern shore of this bay, travelling as far east as Paspebiac. A recrossing of the Gaspé Peninsula along the Matapedia River was then undertaken, and afterwards the party followed the right bank of the St Lawrence River towards Québec.

Roedd bywyd yn galed yn y blynyddoedd cynnar. Heb gymorth y brodorion lleol ni fyddent wedi goroesi. Erbyn yr 1880au roedd y wladfa wedi hen sefydlu ac yn destun dipyn o chwilfrydedd yn ôl yng Nghymru.
It is now over 140 years since the first Welsh settlers landed in Patagonia. Life in the early years was harsh. Without the help of local indigenous people they would not have survived. By the 1880s the colony was well established and the subject of much curiosity back in Wales. Numerous photographers have recorded life in this remote part of South America. In all there are now 24 albums that contain photographs of Welsh settlers and their descendants in The National Library of Wales.
