El plano económico: Irán centra sus relaciones económicas con los países latinoamericanos en las áreas del petróleo y la energía intentando expandirlas, entre otros motivos por ver en ellas un medio de soslayar las sanciones que se le han impuesto. Sus vínculos con Venezuela le permiten coordinar los precios del petróleo con un gran país exportador (Irán y Venezuela ocupan el cuarto y quinto lugar en el mundo, respectivamente, entre los países exportadores).
