Elle est en outre impliquée dans plusieurs institutions qui reçoivent des mandats de Copernicus (AEE, ECMWF [European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts] et Frontex [Agence européenne de garde-frontières et de garde-côtes] pour la composante in situ ; ASE et EUMETSAT [Organisation européenne pour l'exploitation des satellites météorologiques] pour la composante spatiale).

Copernicus was launched jointly by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the EU in 1998 for the purpose of providing Europe with the capacity for observing the Earth. The aim is to provide targeted services in the areas of the environment and security (atmosphere, land and marine monitoring, climate change, emergency management, and security) to user groups such as public authorities, humanitarian organisations and the private sector.

Die Schweiz beteiligte sich als Mitglied der ESA sowie im Rahmen der Forschungsrahmenprogramme der EU, in denen sie mitwirkt, an der Entwicklung von Copernicus. Zudem ist sie in verschiedenen Institutionen aktiv, die im Auftrag von Copernicus arbeiten (EUA, ECMWF [European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts] und Frontex [Europäische Agentur für die Grenz- und Küstenwache] für die bodengestützte Beobachtung, ESA und EUMETSAT [Europäische Organisation für die Nutzung meteorologischer Satelliten] für die raumgestützte Tätigkeit).

Oltre a far parte dell’ASE, la Svizzera ha contribuito allo sviluppo di Copernicus partecipando anche a programmi quadro di ricerca dell’UE. Il nostro Paese è inoltre partner di numerose istituzioni che ricevono mandati da Copernicus: per la componente in-situ si annoverano l’AEA, il ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) e la Frontex (Agenzia europea della guardia costiera e di frontiera), mentre per la componente spaziale l’ASE e EUMETSAT (European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites).
