A key objective of Archif Menywod Cymru / Women’s Archive Wales is to identify, rescue and preserve materials relevant to women’s lives, past, present and future. This is to be achieved through the active collecting of relevant records, and arranging for their deposit in an appropriate recognised repository. The scheme here described, with the forms and terms of deposit attached, has been accepted by the organizations forming the Archives and Records Council Wales (ARCW), which includes all local authority Record Offices, several university and national institutions, all of which have professionally qualified staff.

Merch ymfudwyr o’r Alban i Ferthyr Tudful oedd Agnes Irene MacDonald (1898-1992), a elwid yn Rene. Roedd hi’n un o fyfyrwyr cynnar Prifysgol Caerdydd ac astudiodd am radd BSc mewn Bioleg a Botaneg. Yna gwnaeth MSc ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe cyn ennill doethuriaeth mewn Daeareg yn yr Imperial College of Science.

Agnes Irene MacDonald (1898-1992), known as Rene, was the daughter of Scottish migrants to Merthyr Tydfil. She was an early student at Cardiff University she studied for a BSc in Biology and Botany. She then undertook an MSc at Swansea University, before achieving a PhD in Geology at Imperial College of Science. After lecturing at Bedford College for Women in London, she returned to Merthyr to become a senior mistress in biology and botany at Merthyr County Grammar School, where she worked until her retirement in the 1950s. Relatively late in life she married Mr T. L. James, the former Head Postmaster of Llandrindod Wells, in 1966, and later went to live in an artists' colony in Gloucestershire, becoming an amateur painter.
