The El proyecto FRIEND se inició en 1985 en Europa durante la tercera fase del PHI, partiendo de la premisa de que se alcanzarían mejoras si los hidrólogos intercambiaran datos y experiencias con sus homólogos de los países vecinos. Hasta la fecha, se han instaurado ocho proyectos regionales FRIEND en Europa septentrional, Africa meridional, la región de los Alpes y el Mediterráneo, el Africa occidental y central, la región Hindu-Kush Himalaya, la región del Pacífico asiático, la cuenca del Nilo y el Caribe. Se está estudiando la posibilidad de otros proyectos regionales FRIEND en Asia central, América del Sur y América del Norte.

The hall height including a parapet is 11,15 m, out of which 8 m is a free space without intermediate supports.  The eastern facade envelope with most of its area glazed belongs between the most interesting works and was a big challenge mainly when structural reasons are considered. Sipral chose steel welded structures made of steel oblong tubes of 180 x 60 x 5 mm to form the basic bearing grid of the facade. On this structure there was an all-glazed glazing system with thermal breaks, Schüco FW50+ Aufsatzkonstruktion (now labelled as AOC 50), with face width of 50 mm. Width of modules between mullions is 1500 mm, height zoning of the facade is the following one: a non-transparent part of a plinth is 0,25 m, a glazed part is 1,85 m + 1,5 m, a non-transparent part is 0,5 m, and a transparent part is 1,5 + 2,2 m. The non-transparent part at the parapet is 3,35 m high.

Known by their black shells and abundant, orangey-yellow flesh, bouchot mussels from Mont-Saint-Michel Bay are one of the gastronomic gems of the region. Introduced in 1954, at the instigation of councillors from Le Vivier-sur-Mer, today there are about 270 km of mussel lines and nearly 200,000 stakes. These mussels alone, with their AOP and AOC status, represent a quarter of French mussel production. This is a shellfish with creamy, soft flesh and a melt-in-the-mouth texture, which can be enjoyed from July to February, marinière-style with white wine and herbs, in a cream sauce, grilled or in a risotto. They can be kept for two days in the refrigerator, and the proof of their freshness on the stalls is a tightly-shut shell.
