Piteå-Tidningen newspaper writes in its leading article that those in power are entitled to use their positions provided it is not to further their own interests. So the end justifies the means. That is an alarming stance to take on democracy and the rule of law."

Despite the excitement caused by Elvis, the shooting went ahead. We can see emblematic components from the Expo in the film. For instance, the character of Elvis takes the Monorail. Observant people may notice that the Monorail trip is much more longer than it is in reality: indeed, it was a way to let Elvis sing his song until the end! Another scene takes place in the Space Needle's panoramic restaurant. Here again, inconsistent elements can be spotted and demonstrate that the scene was shot in studios: windows are moving instead of the landscape in the background. The footage in which Elvis is strolling in the Gayway zone, a kind of funfair within the Expo, can also be mentioned.

The Hainrode Tunnel was certainly one of the trickiest projects on the new line between Hanover and Würzburg. The tunnel with a total length of 5.3 km was driven in two lots. The lot "HTN" was roughly 2,800 m long with tunnel cross-sections between 120-140 m². The geology mainly comprised variegated sandstone (layers of sand with clay intercalations). The tunnel was lined with a 30-40 cm thick, reinforced in-situ concrete shell. In order to cut down on construction time, an access tunnel was built providing three points of attack for driving. In retrospect, this decision was well worthwhile as considerable geological problems were encountered in the section north of the access tunnel. Ordinary securing measures (reinforced shotcrete, support arches, bolts and lances) did not suffice in this section. Grouting, wells for lowering the groundwater and crown bases were needed. It even turned out to be necessary to drive a fore gallery some 100 m in length. Thanks to the access tunnel, there were no delays in spite of these difficulties, which had unexpectedly cropped up. The main drive towards the south progressed unhampered. In the so-called "Hainrode Fault ", an area known for its pronounced geological disturbances, the groundwater was lowered from the ground surface with wells more than 100 m in depth. To strengthen the extremely disturbed rock in the fault zone, a stronger lining was chosen comprising reinforced support arches, stiffened, two-layer shotcrete reinforcement, 40 cm shotcrete thicknesses, bolting system with 8 m long self-boring grounding anchors. Thanks to these measures, it was possible to complete the tunnelling of the "Hainrode Fault" section on schedule without any unusual incidents. In this section, the inner shell was 60 cm thick.

Die Auskleidung des Tunnels erfolgte durch eine bewehrte, 30-40 cm starke Ortbetoninnenschale. Um Bauzeit einzusparen, ist ein "Fensterstollen" zur Ausführung gekommen, der drei Angriffspunkte für den Vortrieb ermöglichte. Diese Entscheidung hat sich nachträglich doppelt bezahlt gemacht, da im Abschnitt nördlich des Fensterstollens mit beachtlichen geologischen Problemen zu kämpfen war. Die üblichen Sicherungsmaßnahmen (bewehrter Spritzbeton, Ausbaubögen, Anker und Spieße) reichten in diesem Abschnitt nicht aus; es wurden Injektionen, Brunnen zur Absenkung des Grundwassers und Kalottensohlen nötig. Auf circa 100 m musste sogar ein Vorstollen aufgefahren werden. Dank des Fensterstollens kam es trotz dieser überraschend aufgetauchten Schwierigkeiten zu keinen zeitlichen Verzögerungen. Der Hauptvortrieb nach Süden konnte unbehindert weiterlaufen. Im sogenannten "Hainroder Graben", einem vorab bekannten Bereich, der sich durch starke geologische Störungen auszeichnete, wurde von der Geländeoberfläche aus eine Grundwasserabsenkung mit Brunnen von über 100 m Tiefe durchgeführt. Zur Stützung des stark gestörten Gebirges in der Grabenbruchzone wurde ein verstärkter Ausbau gewählt (Verstärkung der Ausbaubögen, verstärkte, doppellagige Spritzbetonbewehrung, Spritzbetonstärken von 40 cm, Systemankerung mit 8 m langen, selbstbohrenden Injektionsankern). Mit diesem verstärkten Ausbau konnte der Bereich "Hainroder Graben" ohne besondere Vorkommnisse termingerecht aufgefahren werden. Die Stärke der Innenschale wurde in diesem Bereich auf 60 cm festgelegt.

The Attorney General of Quebec presents this interpretation in paras. 11 and 39 of its factum.  Moreover, the parties argued this appeal on the basis of their shared understanding that by‑law No. 210 did not prohibit the landing and taking off of hydroplanes at the relevant location and that the amendment brought about by by‑law No. 260[3] was necessary to achieve that result.  This shared understanding is reflected in both their written and oral submissions in this Court.  While the proper interpretation of the provisions is debatable, the parties’ shared understanding of the interpretation is plausible and I do not think the Court should approach the case on a basis that does not reflect that shared understanding on which all of  the submissions of the parties were formulated.

4.1.4 The Consular Contingency Plan was updated as of November 2004 and the Duty Officer Handbook is also up to date. There are currently 465 registrants in the Register of Canadians Abroad (ROCA). There is no official warden network in place, and the Mission uses its contacts with local employers to assist in passing information within the Canadian community when necessary. Managing this number of registrants without a formal network is difficult, and such a network should be established. This would offer the Mission an opportunity to develop closer links to the Canadian community by recruiting, training and equipping a number of wardens. The Mission has had problems recruiting wardens in the past and may need to advertise locally. Given that Algeria is in an earthquake zone, a functioning warden network should be considered a necessity.

The exhibition’s Russian title – Vid na zhitelstvo – technically means ‘a residence permit for immigrants’ but the word vid may also mean ‘view’ or ‘perspective’, which gives the title a second meaning – ‘a view on living’. The exhibition encompassing work by renowned contemporary Russian photographers Max Sher and Jegor Zaika includes 120 photographs, video and an installation. This project is a reflection on ethical explorations pursued by artists who often opt for inner emigration refusing to make socio-political judgments about the surrounding world. What they get as a result is a ‘transit zone’, a space of semantic and ethical semi-emptiness where the cultural signs and codes of the immediate present appear as the only possibility to feel and define the boundaries of one’s own identity.

In 2006, Eaton recognized that the western edge of the Rackla belt had significant gold and tungsten geochemical anomalies in the government database. Exploration over the next four years led to the delineation of the Tiger zone, a limestone-hosted replacement-style gold deposit. While conducting reconnaissance geochemical surveys there three years later, though, the team recognized they were standing on a narrow band of largely Paleozoic carbonate rock: shelf margin rocks that extended some distance to the east. So, guided by a Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) interpretation that those rocks were similar to northeastern Nevada, and that all the creeks sampled by the GSC were anomalous for arsenic 100 kilometres to the east, in another isolated mountain range, they were soon looking east. “It didn’t discourage us that there were no gold anomalies in those creeks because we knew Carlin-type gold is typically so fine-grained it was going to continue to move downstream,” says Carne. They were confident that if they sampled further upstream, they would find the source of the GSC’s arsenic anomalies.

Alors, guidés par une interprétation de la Commission géologique du Canada (CGC) voulant que ces roches soient semblables à celles du nord-est du Nevada et sachant que les criques échantillonnées par la CGC présentaient une anomalie d’arsenic à 100 kilomètres à l’est, dans une autre chaîne de montagnes, leur regard s’est rapidement tourné vers l’est. « Le fait que ces criques ne présentaient pas d’anomalie d’or ne nous a pas découragés parce que nous savions que l’or de type Carlin est généralement si fin qu’il continuerait de s’écouler », précise M. Carne. Ils savaient que s’ils prenaient un échantillon en amont, ils trouveraient la source des anomalies d’arsenic repérées par la CGC.
