A post-vacation vacation is probably what many people feel that they need when they realize how much has to be done once they're back to normality at home. It may well have been a fun-filled vacation with new memories to keep but getting back on track is hard work on its own. At least, that’s how it is for me. I also feel this way after every weekend. Monday mornings are the hardest because I am always thinking about the hectic schedule I have lined up for the week. I look at my watch and realize I'm running late for work, and have to jump out of bed to get ready as quickly as I can. On my way out, I check the time again, grab my briefcase and get right into the day with a quick stop at the coffee shop downstairs for a take-out doughnut to eat en route to work. The thought of how I'd managed to completely lose track of time during the past two weeks away is bittersweet. Living off the clock without having to think about much of anything was amazing, but I am glad to be back on the go and getting life done, with my watch keeping me on time for the meetings and social gatherings I had planned for the week.

J’ai également ce sentiment après chaque week-end, car affronter le lundi matin est ce qu’il y a de plus pénible quand je pense à l’emploi du temps chargé qui m’attend pour la semaine. Je regarde ma montre et je réalise que je suis en retard pour aller travailler, je saute hors du lit pour me préparer aussi vite que possible. En partant, je vérifie l’heure à nouveau, j’attrape ma mallette et je commence ma journée en m’arrêtant rapidement pour acheter un croissant au café d’en bas. Je le mangerai pendant le trajet. J’ai un pincement au cœur en pensant à la façon dont j’ai réussi à perdre toute notion du temps pendant mes deux semaines de vacances. Ne plus avoir à regarder l’heure ni à réfléchir à quoi que ce soit était délicieux, mais j’étais ravi de me remettre dans le mouvement et de pouvoir compter sur ma montre pour être à l’heure aux réunions et aux sorties notées dans mon agenda de la semaine.

Sin duda habrán sido unas divertidas vacaciones llenas de nuevos recuerdos, pero volver a la normalidad ya es difícil de por si. O, al menos, ese es mi caso. También me siento así tras algunos fines de semana. Los lunes por la mañana son especialmente duros, pues me pongo a pensar en la ajetreada agenda que he organizado para esa semana. Miro el reloj y me doy cuenta de que llego tarde al trabajo. Pego un salto de la cama y me preparo tan rápido como puedo. De camino al trabajo, vuelvo a mirar el reloj, cojo el maletín y comienzo el día con una breve parada en la cafetería, donde compro un dónut para comer por el camino. Guardo el agridulce recuerdo de cómo perdía la noción del tiempo durante mis dos semanas de vacaciones. Vivir al margen del reloj, sin pensar en nada, fue maravilloso; pero me alegro de volver a estar en movimiento, organizar mi día a día y, con ayuda de mi reloj, llegar a tiempo a las reuniones y eventos sociales que he planeado en mi agenda semanal.

Dans cette série, j'ai en quelque sorte cherché à réunir les deux acceptions du terme. Les montages réalisés sont issus de l'union de paysages dont les significations me semblaient antinomiques. J'ai travaillé à partir de lieux de conservation, dont l'histoire naturelle et humaine est très riche, puis avec des lieux déracinés évoquant diverses formes de disparitions. On y trouve notamment des combinaisons de nouveaux développements domiciliaires et de sites classés « Patrimoine mondial » par l'Unesco. J'ai aussi combiné des sites fossilifères à divers paysages façonnés par l'économie, comme des dépotoirs ou des mines. Ces paysages se fondent assez naturellement, car leur aspect bouleversé et dénudé les rapproche. Certains chantiers sont d'ailleurs dotés d'une puissance suggestive qui n'est pas sans rappeler celle des déserts naturels. Dans plusieurs montages, les différences d'échelles amènent le regard à glisser constamment d'une portion d'image à l'autre, rendant ainsi les compositions visuellement instables. Le passage d'une échelle monumentale à une échelle réduite bouleverse aussi les hiérarchies : ce qui semblait alors immense et immuable occupe une position de vulnérabilité, et ce qui était dérisoire et anecdotique devient important. En eux s'affrontent deux visions opposées : l'une évoquant une démarche rétrospective, l'autre relevant d'une attitude plus prospective, mais peu soucieuse des permanences.

That’s a tough one, a big question for our generation. There are certainly a lot of pitfalls inherent in online culture. The Internet is highly addictive, damaging and mind-numbing, shallow, narcissistic etc. But it has the ability to allow us to connect to each other and organize and be productive. Ultimately, it’s the same as with any technology, it can be used positively or negatively. Not a particularly original answer, but that’s the way I see it.

The hall height including a parapet is 11,15 m, out of which 8 m is a free space without intermediate supports.  The eastern facade envelope with most of its area glazed belongs between the most interesting works and was a big challenge mainly when structural reasons are considered. Sipral chose steel welded structures made of steel oblong tubes of 180 x 60 x 5 mm to form the basic bearing grid of the facade. On this structure there was an all-glazed glazing system with thermal breaks, Schüco FW50+ Aufsatzkonstruktion (now labelled as AOC 50), with face width of 50 mm. Width of modules between mullions is 1500 mm, height zoning of the facade is the following one: a non-transparent part of a plinth is 0,25 m, a glazed part is 1,85 m + 1,5 m, a non-transparent part is 0,5 m, and a transparent part is 1,5 + 2,2 m. The non-transparent part at the parapet is 3,35 m high.

Unfortunately for Tawney Meiorin, a similar story wasn't fictional. She was hired as a forest firefighter by the Province of British Columbia. She did her work well until three years later when the province adopted a new series of fitness tests for forest firefighters. She passed three of the tests but failed the fourth one, a 2.5 kilometre run designed to test her aerobic fitness. Since her aerobic fitness fell below the minimum standard, Tawney Meiorin was fired. Tawney felt the test discriminated against women. How? Women have a lower aerobic capacity than most men and cannot increase their capacity - even with ample training - enough to meet the standard.
