The protein, calpain, can wreak havoc when it works improperly because it is a protease - it cuts other proteins. It is known to be regulated by calcium. Dr. Jia's atomic-level structural detective work revealed the precise reason that calcium is needed to activate calpain.

Для эффективного использования ресурсов необходимо обеспечить равномерную загрузку всех процессоров, что в свою очередь означает, что все ветви программы должны выполнить примерно одинаковый объем вычислительной работы. Однако не всегда этого можно достичь. Например, при решении некоторой параметрической задачи для разных значений параметров, время поиска решения может значительно различаться. В таких случаях, видимо, разумнее независимо выполнять расчеты для каждого параметра с помощью обычной однопроцессорной программы [9]. Но даже в таком простом случае могут потребоваться суперкомпьютерные ресурсы, поскольку выполнение полного расчета на однопроцессорной системе может потребовать слишком длительного времени. Параллельное выполнение множества программ для различных значений параметров позволяет существенно ускорить решение задачи. Наконец, следует отметить, что использование суперкомпьютеров всегда более эффективно для обслуживания вычислительных потребностей большой группы пользователей, чем использование эквивалентного количества однопроцессорных рабочих станций, так как в этом случае с помощью некоторой системы управления заданиями легче обеспечить равномерную и более эффективную загрузку вычислительных ресурсов.

Mutig präsentieren sich die wunderbaren Installationen von Colin Ardley und Teresa Murak, welche die geometrisch-räumlichen Grundsätze der Renaissance in einem in Polen nicht gekannten Maße unterstreichen und kommentieren. Indem sie das Zentrum des urbanen Raums in einem symbolischen Netz von Vertikalen und Horizontalen verbinden, bejahen sie die Utopie der Ordnung im menschlichen Universum. Gleich um die Ecke erhält dieses System einen ironischen Kommentar in Form einer Paraphrase auf Tatlins Denkmal für die Dritte Internationale – auf dem Salzmarkt aus Birkenbrettern erbaut von Kai Schiemenza. Eine Gruppe einheimischer Halbwüchsiger ignoriert die Knackgeräusche der nassen Bretter sowie den Hinweis “auf eigene Gefahr” und nimmt im Laufschritt die scharfen Kurven des kominternen Turms zu Babel.
