Quel rôle joue le cortisol dans le cadre du TSPT? Comme on l’a mentionné précédemment, les personnes souffrant de TSPT ont tendance à perdre la mémoire ou à occulter certains aspects de l’événement. En général, le cortisol est bon pour la mémoire et pour les structures cérébrales qui traitent les souvenirs, comme l’hippocampe. Il est intéressant de souligner que les personnes souffrant de TSPT depuis longtemps ont presque toujours un hippocampe plus petit et un niveau de cortisol moins élevé. Mais il existe deux théories à ce sujet. Est-ce que le fait d’avoir un hippocampe plus petit et de produire moins de cortisol est une conséquence du traumatisme subi, ou est-ce que les personnes souffrant de TSPT ont un hippocampe plus petit et produisent moins de cortisol? M. Brunet et son équipe ont peut-être aidé à faire la lumière sur cette question. Premièrement, en adoptant leur approche prospective, qui consiste à suivre les personnes ayant subi un traumatisme durant les heures qui suivent leur arrivée en salle d’urgence, ils ont pu démontrer que, quatre mois et cinq jours après avoir vécu un traumatisme, les personnes qui affichent le niveau de TSPT le plus élevé produisaient déjà moins de cortisol que celles qui guérissent ou n’ont aucun symptôme du TSPT. En fait, M. Brunet a montré que le niveau peu élevé de cortisol observé au début de l’étude permettait de déterminer si une personne allait ou pas souffrir de TSPT chronique. Les résultats de ses recherches appuient donc la théorie selon laquelle la faible production de cortisol pourrait bien être l’un des facteurs pré-existants chez les personnes souffrant de TSPT, et non le résultat de dommages subis avec le temps.

En dan laten we recreatief cannabisgebruik nog buiten beschouwing: wat te denken van de medicinale eigenschappen en voedingswaarde?

Ovo mjesto je bivši KZ, njemačka skraćenica za koncentracijski logor. Kako je to biti turist u bivšem koncentracijskom logoru? Kako je svakodnevno raditi ovdje kao vodič?
