Oog Volkskrant online is an op-ed podium and part of the online edition of the Volkskrant. Oog (Eye) asks audiovisual artists to share their views on the news and current events, and on the role, function and composition of the news and current events. In this way artists can take on the role of opinion makers in a news environment. Oog began in September, 2005, and each week shows the work of a different artist. After that, the work can be found in the accompanying archive. Nanette Hoogslag, Oog's initiator and curator, has made a selection from the archive especially for Video Vortex.2. The works are shown via an interface specially developed by Joes Koppers and Bente van Bourgondiën. With work by De Ruimte designers, Han Hoogerbrugge, Max Kisman, Michael Takeo Magruder, Jody Zellen, Bik van der Pol, PJ Roggeband & VJ Hummer, jimpunk, Motomichi Nakamura, Carolien Hermans, Marjolijn Ruyg and Willem van Weelden, Babette Wagenvoort, Berend Strik, Jeroen Kooijmans, eddie d, De Geuzen, Studio Frank & Lisa, Lust and others.
Francis Rome – The way in which the ports relate to one another can be expressed in various different ways, such as in the number of tonnes of goods transhipped, value added, or employment. If we stick with the number of tonnes of goods transhipped as a means of expressing the size of the ports, the Port of Antwerp is clearly Flanders’ largest port, whilst Zeebrugge and Ghent are medium-sized and Ostend is the smallest of Flanders’ ports. In the Port of Antwerp, a total of 214.1 million tonnes of goods were loaded and unloaded in 2016, which is 2.7% more than in 2015. The handling of liquid bulk goods and containers in particular recorded strong growth figures. In the case of containers, the Port managed to surpass the threshold of 10 million TEUs for the first time. In 2016, the Port of Ghent recorded a strong increase in the transhipment of goods by sea of 10.3% compared to 2015. That growth largely resided in the area of liquid bulk, but the Port also witnessed an increase in dry bulk goods and miscellaneous break bulk. In total, this came to 29.1 million tonnes. Zeebrugge recorded a small decrease in traffic in 2016, finishing at a total of 37.8 million tonnes (-1.3%). The transhipment of liquid bulk and containers decreased, but this was largely compensated for by an increase in traffic involving dry bulk, ro-ro and conventional break bulk. The Port of Zeebrugge handled a record number of new vehicles, numbering 2.8 million vehicles in total, thereby consolidating the port's position as the largest automotive port in the world. With a traffic figure of 1.5 million tonnes, the Port of Ostend is a small port, however its activities have shifted in the past few years from purely maritime activities to offshore activities, construction and the maintenance of offshore wind-farms.
