...not a large project, but one all the more exciting as it deals with questions and issues that often arise in international consulting – and remarkably often for projects in emerging and developing countries. At such locations one may assume (rightly so!) that a focus on prototype technologies is something which should not be top priority. However, the compulsive concept (the “King Midas-Idea”) to convert waste into money, via the intermediate forms raw materials and/or energy with no residue produced, is sometimes pursued with a level of enthusiasm which is typically inverse to tangible technical expertise (referring to waste treatment beyond laboratory scale) of the respective technology supporters. This applies in central Europe equally to in emerging and developing countries. As a consultant, to provide meaningful input to such projects is perhaps our business’ greatest challenge, and requires not only well-grounded engineering know how, but also tactful instinct, pedagogical-didactical skills – and some luck, as in the present case.

Oskarine is the product of a meeting between the programming artist Ulrike Gabriel and the language artist Oskar Pastior. The actually impossible task of translating Pastior's poetry into a digital work of art was set; impossible seeing as Pastior's texts can be read as a fantastic software in the imaginary programming language PASTIOR. Thus Ulrike Gabriel's work became a Pastior reading within the medium of program codes. Initially Oskarine grabs texts (combination variable) from Pastior's work, and transfers them generatively to the computer. Here, each text arises according to the rules contained in the poems, calculated by the computer and new at every call. None of the digital readings are the same-so the system doesn't merely reproduce the voice of the poet, but allows him to speak in numerous ways.

Le 27 juin 2003, Zubrin, un anti-inflammatoire non stéroïdien (AINS), a été autorisé pour les chiens. Zubrin renferme un principe actif du nom de tepoxaline, et sert à réduire les inflammations ainsi qu'à soulager les douleurs de l'appareil locomoteur. La tepoxaline, un inhibiteur mixte de la cyclo-oxygénase et de la 5-lipoxygénase, est un antiinflammatoire puissant dont les effets secondaires au niveau gastro-intestinal sont limités. L'administration par voie orale de 10 mg / kg de tepoxaline entraîne une inhibition marquée des prostaglandines dans le sang ainsi qu'une diminution significative des marqueurs d'inflammation sur la zone enflammée, sans toutefois occasionner de suppression majeure dans la paroi gastrique. Zubrin ne doit pas être administré en association avec d'autres anti-inflammatoires non stéroïdiens, des diurétiques, des anti-coagulants, ou des substances hautement liées aux protéines plasmatiques. En effet, ces substances peuvent entrer en compétition pour la fixation, conduisant à des effets potentiellement toxiques.

One of the main challenges lay in the complex product data structure of VELUX. Therefore, a substantial part of the work was creating an import engine capable of interpreting existing product logics and executing these in the system accordingly. In this way, VELUX can provide complex product- and configuration dependencies in the online configurator with as little effort as possible. The configurator was designed to allow error-free assembly of a window or a combination of several windows. In practice this is made more difficult through the high degree of complexity of interdependencies among the products – e.g., “Product A” cannot be installed together with “Product B.” Additionally, the product logic becomes increasingly complex when configuring multiple windows concurrently. Moreover, it must be possible for VELUX to define arbitrary exceptions within this product logic.
