I would just like to make that distinction, that you don’t change your work in order to make it sellable, but you do make the work in order so that you can sell it, so that you can continue your work because everyone has to live in reality. And the reality of things is that there isn’t a grant big enough in all of North America to keep me going for one year. At the rate that I spend money running a foundry, running this operation, there isn’t one… a Canada Council Grant is not much money - $30,000? That would keep my operation going for a month, so what can I do? I have to sell, but I don’t compromise my work to sell it because I know fundamentally that the way to sell work is not to compromise. If you compromise people won’t buy it, it’s a simple business thing.

Et la réalité des choses est qu’il n’y a pas une seule bourse qui soit assez substantielle en Amérique du Nord pour me soutenir pendant une année entière. Au rythme où je dépense de l’argent pour opérer ma fonderie, il n’y en a pas une... une bourse du Conseil des arts du Canada, c’est peu d’argent – 30,000$? Ça me permettrait de continuer mon opération pendant un mois, alors que dois-je faire? Je dois vendre, mais je ne compromets pas mes oeuvres pour les vendre, parce que je sais fondamentalement que la meilleure façon de vendre ses oeuvres est de ne pas se compromettre. Si vous compromettez votre art, les gens n’achèteront pas, c’est une simple question d’affaires.

Sipral chose steel welded structures made of steel oblong tubes of 180 x 60 x 5 mm to form the basic bearing grid of the facade. On this structure there was an all-glazed glazing system with thermal breaks, Schüco FW50+ Aufsatzkonstruktion (now labelled as AOC 50), with face width of 50 mm. Width of modules between mullions is 1500 mm, height zoning of the facade is the following one: a non-transparent part of a plinth is 0,25 m, a glazed part is 1,85 m + 1,5 m, a non-transparent part is 0,5 m, and a transparent part is 1,5 + 2,2 m. The non-transparent part at the parapet is 3,35 m high.

Nous y voyions surtout des ours blancs solitaires traverser l’île environ une fois par mois, et de loin. Ils fouillaient des carcasses de boeufs musqués morts, chassaient le caribou, poursuivaient les lemmings dans la neige et dormaient pendant plusieurs heures. Étant donné que nous ne portions jamais d’armes à feu, nous nous inquiétions toujours à leur sujet, certains chercheurs ayant même vécu des incidents traumatisants en présence d’ours dans le camp ou sur le terrain.

Non ci fu risposta. I due procedevano affiancati, un po’ più avanti quello magro, appena un po’ dietro quello più grosso. Sulla destra della stradina che stavano percorrendo si stagliava una scura parete di roccia scolpita fitta fitta dai picconi dei cavatori: smorzava la luce del sole e ne rimandava il calore. Dall’altra parte, un basso muretto scalcinato rivestito qua e là dalle piante dei capperi lasciava intravedere, tra i fitti rami verdi e profumati delle acacie, una vista sconfinata su Firenze e, in lontananza, le colline. Ora la strada faceva una leggera curva sulla sinistra, piegava appena e poi, sulla destra, subito ripartiva: la bianca parete di una grande villa rimandava una luce accecante mentre, dall’altra parte, la roccia, ora umida in qualche punto e ricoperta dai lunghi filamenti delle edere, dava un po’ di refrigerio ai due viaggiatori.

That's a tough one. A lot of the federal-provincial dynamic has taken place with the CCME, the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment. That has not been particularly productive at giving us environmental gains. It has probably led to better provincial-federal cooperation, but not to real environmental improvement. Unfortunately, a lot of the necessary cooperation to realize CEPA between the feds and the provinces has been focused in the CCME and not in CEPA.

C'est une question difficile. La dynamique fédérale-provinciale émane en partie du CCME, le Conseil canadien des ministres de l'environnement. Il ne nous a pas particulièrement donné de gains environnementaux mais a probablement amélioré la coopération fédérale-provinciale. Hélas, la coopération nécessaire entre les gouvernements fédéral et provinciaux pour mettre en oeuvre la LCPE a surtout été concentrée au CCME au lieu de la LCPE.
