The study of his body of work reveals that his choice of landscapes used as subjects in his paintings was rather limited. Each landscape was approached differently: like a photographer, he zooms in or out, finds different focal points, plays with light effects or seasonal changes.

Met deze tentoonstelling willen we dieper ingaan op de werkwijze van Valerius De Saedeleer. Als we zijn werk overschouwen, merken we dat hij eigenlijk slechts een beperkt aantal landschappen geschilderd heeft. Elk landschap werd namelijk steeds anders benaderd: net als een fotograaf zoomt hij in of uit, zoekt hij een ander focuspunt, speelt hij met lichteffecten of met de seizoenswissels. Ook voegt hij elementen toe aan de compositie of neemt hij er weg, zoals bomen of huisjes. Het leek ons dan ook boeiend om een aantal reeksen samen te stellen. Met de Leie-landschappen kunnen we bijvoorbeeld de artistieke kentering in het werk van Valerius De Saedeleer duidelijk maken. Terwijl de eerste Leiezichten nog evocaties zijn van natuurimpressies, evolueren ze naar een schijnbaar fotorealistische voorstelling van de werkelijkheid. Die Leie-landschappen zijn geschilderd met een lage horizon, waardoor de hemel een groot deel van het werk beheerst.

Alors que le train arrive sur un pont, un photographe se tient d'un côté de la voie avec sa caméra posée sur un trépied. Il se penche vers l'avant pour prendre une photo et zoome sur le pont. Toujours en regardant dans l'objectif, il remarque que deux vis sont desserrées sur le côté du pont. Il essaie d'avertir les mécaniciens de locomotive en leur faisant des signes et en criant, mais en vain. Une bulle apparaît, affichant le numéro de téléphone de SECURITAS : 1-800-567-6865.

En entrant dans le bureau du professeur d'architecture Jeffrey Huang, dans le bâtiment d'informatique, la première chose que vous verrez après les maquettes sur une table tout le long du mur, c'est une table basse carrée au centre de la pièce. Asseyez-vous et cette table se transforme en une interface graphique interactive. Le professeur saisit la planète terre, l'étire, la fait tourner, fait un zoom sur l'hémisphère nord, trouve la maison de ses parents dans la banlieue de Santa Fe, et oui, il y a une voiture dans l'allée. Si ce n'est pas de l'architecture, cette démonstration illustre mieux que les mots la façon dont l'informatique et la technologie changent notre rapport à l'information et à quelle vitesse on repousse les limites du possible avec chaque nouvelle découverte.
