Da wir TSE-Literaturarbeit für eine wichtige Ergänzung der experimentellen TSE-Forschung hielten, boten Dr. Ingrid Schütt-Abraham und ich seit 2001 ein Hypertext-Projekt als einfaches Werkzeug der ortsunabhängigen und ungleichzeitigen Zusammenarbeit an. Leider konnten die aus unserer Sicht offensichtlichen gesellschaftlichen und praktischen Vorteile unseres Projektes keine weiteren TSE-Forscher zur unbezahlten Mitarbeit bewegen. Deshalb beendet der viel zu frühe Tod meiner Projektpartnerin auch dieses Projekt.

Opvallend genoeg was Jos Hugense jarenlang werkzaam in een 'gewoon' vleesbedrijf. Zijn familie was zelfs al generatie op generatie actief de vleessector. In 2006 kwam voor hem de ommekeer. Het bedrijf waar Hugense werkte had flinke schade opgelopen door de uitbraak van BSE. Door ziektes en incidenten werd veel omzet misgelopen. 'Ik raakte die herhaaldelijke klappen beu en wilde werken aan een alternatief', zegt Hugense. 'In die tijd waren de magere zuivelproducten in opkomst, maar bleef in de vleesindustrie veel bij het oude. Ik ben toen gaan experimenteren. In eerste instantie met bekende plantaardige grondstoffen, zoals soja. Dat was kwalitatief onder de maat. Dankzij een tip uit mijn netwerk kwam ik terecht op zeewier.'
