Unter allen Wallfahrtsorten im Heiligen Land, die oft an eine Besonderheit des Gebietes gebunden sind, versammelt der Wallfahrtsort Unsere Liebe Frau von Palästina unsere ganze Ortskirche, über die Sensibilität, die Herkunft oder die Sprache der Einzelnen hinaus. Ich möchte die Empfangskapazität dieser Hochburg vergrößern, vor allem damit Jugendliche, Eheleute und Familien dort zusammenkommen und geistlich auftanken können.

Similarly, when one represents his country abroad, one defends its interests and values, promotes a just international order, while supporting his compatriots.

C’est à nouveau en Terre Sainte que j’ai pu réfléchir à ce que sont les « murs », visibles ou non.

Das wird nicht immer verstanden. Wie kann man gleichzeitig über die Seinen wachen und dem Ansehen der Person nicht Rechnung tragen? Wenn man sein Land im Ausland vertritt, verteidigt man in analoger Weise seine Interessen und seine Werte, man fördert eine gerechte internationale Ordnung und unterstützt gleichzeitig seine Landsleute. Wiederum im Heiligen Land konnte ich über das nachdenken, was sichtbare oder unsichtbare „Mauern“ sind.

Papst Franziskus definierte sie in der Verkündigungsbulle des Jubiläums der Barmherzigkeit folgendermaßen (Nr. 15): Entdecken wir erneut die leiblichen Werke der Barmherzigkeit: Hungrige speisen, Durstigen zu trinken geben, Nackte bekleiden, Fremde aufnehmen, Kranke pflegen, Gefangene besuchen und die Toten begraben. Und vergessen wir auch nicht die geistigen Werke der Barmherzigkeit: den Zweifelnden recht raten, die Unwissenden lehren, die Sünder zurechtweisen, die Betrübten trösten, Beleidigungen verzeihen, die Lästigen geduldig ertragen und für die Lebenden und Verstorbenen zu Gott beten.
