Thanks to his father, who was employed as a construction worker in a number of foreign countries, like Iraq, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria and India, little Tony was able to visit a great many exotic parts of the world. He probably spent the most time in India and has the fondest memories of this country. “It was an entirely different era, the sixties; civilisation could be found only in large cities; when we first landed at the airport in Delhi, the airport personnel comprised daughters of the best families – it was a great honour and privilege for them … just to draw a picture of those times.” With his family, he travelled around almost the entire country and discovered many things he would never see again. In India, he went to a Czech school for the entire fifth grade; however, this was the last period he spent together with his mum and dad. The Communist regime decided he would have to stay in this country and held him here as a “hostage” – to force his parents to return. He has not been to India since then … Don’t you think this is remarkably similar to the destiny of the main character in the Cosy Dens movie? … Tony completed the sixth to eighth grades in Czechoslovakia and visited his parents only for holidays. On the other hand, they really knew how to enjoy their time together. For example, after the seventh grade – his father was working in Iraq at that time – Tony learned to drive and drove himself and others in a jeep across the desert from the highway construction site between Baghdad and Mosul to the camp and back.
