Two PhD thesis are under preparation within those projects. Since 1990 the Laboratory takes part in the Polish state monitoring network for radioactive contamination organized by National Atomic Agency (PAA) and Central Laboratory for Radiation Protection.

W strukturze Zakładu mieści się jedno Laboratorium ( Pracownia Badań Skażeń Promieniotwórczych Środowiska) i kilka zespołów roboczych dedykowanych do określonych zadań badawczych. Pracownia Badań Skażeń Promieniotwórczych Środowiska prowadzi oznaczenia plutonu, ameryku, kiuru, uranu, toru, polonu, 90Sr, 63Ni, 7Be, 99Tc i 137Cs w różnego rodzaju próbkach środowiskowych. Zasadnicze wyposażenie to niskotłowe spektrometry promieniowania gamma o wysokiej rozdzielczości (germanowe), półprzewodnikowe spektrometry promieniowania alfa i spektrometr ciekłoscyntylacyjny. Laboratorium realizuje obecnie kilka projektów badawczych finansowanych z Ministerstwa Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego oraz jeden projekt POMOST finansowany z Fundacji na rzecz Nauki Polskiej. Jeden z projektów MNiSW oraz projekt POMOST dotyczy skażeń radioaktywnych na Spitzbergenie. Dwa pozostałe projekty MNiSW dotyczą 99Tc w środowisku w Polsce oraz plutonu, ameryku i 90Sr w kościach ludzkich. W ramach tych projektów przygotowywane są dwie prace doktorskie. Od roku 1990 Pracownia stanowi część polskiej sieci monitoringu radioaktywności środowiska (od 2002 jako tzw. Laboratorium Specjalistyczne) koordynowanej przez PAA i CLOR. Co tydzień zbierane są i analizowane filtry powietrza dla oznaczeń sztucznych emiterów promieniowania gamma z granicą oznaczalności na poziomie 1 µBq/m3. Od 2007 Pracowania należy do ogólnoświatowej sieci jednoczącej takie laboratoria (koordynowanej przez Uniwersytet na Teneryfie w Hiszpanii). W ramach tej sieci prowadzone są analogiczne oznaczenia w filtrach powietrza z Botswany. W Pracowni przygotowano w ostatnich 2 latach dwie prace doktorskie dotyczące problemów obecności substancji radioaktywnych w powietrzu. Jedna z nich dotyczyła użycia kosmogenicznych 22Na i 7Be dla badań pionowego transportu aerozoli w troposferze a druga wykorzystania obecności izotopów plutonu do śledzenia tras migracji aerozoli. W tej ostatniej pracy, oprócz spektrometrii cząstek alfa wykorzystano również spektrometrię mas (współpraca z ING PAN). W roku 2008 zainstalowano w Pracowni licznik całego ciała z osłoną wykonaną z XIX-wiecznej stali, otrzymany ze Szpitala Uniwersyteckiego w Łodzi. W roku 2010 zainstalowano w nim dwa detektory germanowe oraz spektrometr w standardzie NIM uzupełniający istniejący duży detektor scyntylacyjny. Plany dalszego rozwoju Pracowni związane są z rozwojem w Polsce energetyki jądrowej.
