  Malevich - Reviews (1)....
On a recent trip to New York City I visited the Guggenheim Museum where about fourty Malevich paintings were exhibited. Somewhat bewildered by the meaning of these works of art, I wanted to know more about the artist and his work, both before, during and after his Supremist style.
On a recent trip to New York City I visited the Guggenheim Museum where about fourty Malevich paintings were exhibited. Somewhat bewildered by the meaning of these works of art, I wanted to know more about the artist and his work, both before, during and after his Supremist style. The museum book was an outrageous price, and being Canadian (with the high exchange rate and the high hotel bills luring over my head) I had to think twice about buying it. Then I notice this little Taschen book on Malevich. I bought it immediately. The value of this book is uncomparable. Neret makes it easy to to learn about a complicated man and his art, and the reproductions are many and marvellous. Thanks Taschen, I now feel informed.— Judith McEwen, Kanada

Hollywood honchos of the digital age may lust after these houses now, but no one can quite bring back a certain '50s cool you see in a picture of the Bass House, designed by Buff, Straub & Hensman in Altadena, with a lady perched poolside in a curvy Saarinen chair, or in an image of a snowy white Koenig interior, where a guy in a crewcut is turning on the hi-fi for a lady on a black-leather couch (with orange throw pillows).
There's lots [...] to be discovered in the book....

The third volume of a triology that includes his previous LaChapelle Land and Hotel LaChapelle, Heaven to Hell is almost twice their size.   Newton. SUMO. Revised b...
"Helmut Newton is one of the greatest photographers of all time: even Kanye West would say so. His work has forever changed the way we view fashion, art, and celebrities. There is no better way to keep his memory alive than with an homage to his greatest works by one of the leading book publishers, TASCHEN. SUMO's first release was the biggest and most expensive book production the 20th century had ever seen. Ten years after its first publication, TASCHEN has released a new edition of SUMO that everyone can enjoy. The same number of works are included in the same format, yet the new edition is smaller in size and retails for just $150. Though you can't put a price on a keepsake."— Poshglam.com, Los Angeles, United States

is too heavy to cuddle up with on the couch. This latest tome in TASCHEN’s series of bigger-is-better photography books on great cities needs to spread out on a coffee table of its own. Why another photo book on the most photogenic city in the world, you might ask? One answer is that TASCHEN has already published similar photographic portraits of New York, Los Angeles and Berlin; London comes next. Another is that this book is a photographic study of more than 160 years of the city’s history through the eyes of Jean Claude Gautrand, a 79-year-old photographer and photo editor who is one of France’s most eminent experts on photography. Gautrand spent three and a half years deep in the archives, libraries and private collections of Paris, sifting through hundreds of thousands of files, searching for unknown images by anonymous photographers to pair with what he calls 'the greats'. Yet the books also captures more intimate moments, scenes of everyday pleasure, routine and suffering: on the streets, park benches and bridges; in the cafes, nightclubs, strip joints, parks, artists’ ateliers. One daring undated photo between the two world wars shows women — some of them elegantly dressed as men — socializing in a popular lesbian nightclub. The book also celebrates the technical achievements of the French, starting with the shadowy images of Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre, who invented photography when he succeeded in fixing an image formed inside a camera on a silver plate."— The New York Times, New York, États-Unis

I have seen the set and, as is the case from their budget line through their most expensive catalog items, TASCHEN does not skimp on production values. I was not familiar with Van Lamsweerde and Matadin's work before, and I can't in good faith suggest you run out and drop half your rent money on a photo book, even if it is a TASCHEN.
work as a photography book is that photos from the couple's many diverse projects are mixed and juxtaposed for maximum resonance. This is not a chronology of their growth as artists but a summation of themes. Thus improbable celebrity juxtapositions are offered — who would have bet on similar facial expressions coming from Sean Penn and M.I.A.? “Imagine a catwalk at the end of time, with a hundred of the greatest fashion designers gathered to prove to the Creator that covering our nakedness didn’t work out so bad after all, and you’re somewhere close to what this book contains. This book is sumptuously illustrated, both in its couture photography, and its stylized sketches of the designers themselves. Some of the full-page images may have you wondering why it’s taken until now to create high-def publishing… this book defies labels, mesmerizing you with the brocades and the sequin artistry of it all. This opulent 654 page indulgence comes bound in a choice of patterned covers and it’s not cheap. Then again, if any of the designs in this volume are part of your wardrobe already, you can probably afford to have this masterful fashion design ‘best of’ sitting on a shelf of your boudoir. Or better still, where everyone can see it. If you have money to waste, don’t waste it – buy this book instead.”— The American, London, United Kingdom

"Some of the most beautiful and eye-opening art books of the year ... I simply love this book. It faithfully reproduces on a single page, at a size close to the originals, 119 woodblock prints that Hiroshige (1797-1858) designed during the last two years of his life, redefining the landscape not only for Japanese art but for such Europeans as Whistler, Monet and Van Gogh, who copied or were inspired by them. Hiroshige's habit of combining a large foreground feature such as a tree trunk with a more distant view was quite new at the time and still fascinates. The commentaries on each of the illustrations are outstanding. The introduction is excellent, too, describing both Hiroshige's life and how his series relates to the tradition of printmaking. The price - for such a beautiful design, inspired by Japanese binding - is also amazing."— The Sunday Times, London, United Kingdom
