Trust also plays a key role when the buyer of Yavuzsoy's lined paper drawings has to promise the artist to give them to anyone else who, upon seeing them, says they would also like to have one: a generous act in which Yavuzsoy calls the circulation of art goods into question. Since 2004, he has been creating the lined sheets of paper that strictly adhere to the DIN (German industry standard) norm of industrially manufactured writing paper. The artist draws his straight lines on white paper on an almost daily basis-freehand, but with an underlying "model" to go by-until the pencil he is using is depleted. The resulting drawing is the product of a machine-like virtuosity, without ever quite being able to attain to the industrial norm. But Yavuzsoy explains that he is not concerned with the idea of artist as machine: "People can always see that the paper is drawn by hand." What fascinates him more is the endlessness of the self-appointed task, in a state of dissolution and approaching the inexhaustible.

Fast täglich zieht der Künstler freihändig, jedoch mit einem unterliegenden "Model" gerade Linien über weiße Blätter - solange bis sich der von ihm benutzte Stift erschöpft hat. Das Ergebnis ist eine Zeichnung, die das Ergebnis einer maschinenartigen Virtuosität ist, ohne die industrielle Norm je ganz erreichen zu können. Um den Künstler als Maschine gehe es ihm hierbei jedoch nicht, erklärt Yavuzsoy: "Man wird immer erkennen, dass das Blatt von Hand gezeichnet ist." Was ihn hingegen fasziniert, ist die Endlosigkeit der selbst gewählten Aufgabe "die in sich gelöst", also tendenziell unerschöpflich ist.

Not very gently he was pushed down the worn-out steps into the moist dungeon. He was tied up in rusty chains that cut into his wrists and so he stumbled and crashed against the wet wall that was losing its plaster and where mold had formed. Unfortunately he fell down the steps and bloodied his forehead and banged up his shin. Warm liquid dripped over his right eye. Painstakingly he got up. With heavy, echoing steps the two guards followed behind him. One, a dwarf with a harsh face, carried a torch that illuminated his ugly features consisting of disgusting eyes, nose, mouth and forehead in a pale light. The other was tall and strong and hit his callous palms with the shaft of a whip. He grinned viciously and a mouth with gaps and yellow teeth appeared. "Go on!" he barked in a thunderous voice and pushed the shaft of the whip into the prisoner's back so that he stumbled and fell again. This time a massive door made of oak stopped the fall. Almost unconscious he stayed down and stared at cob webs. Something hurried across his hand with a squeal. Then the tall one put him on his feet and the dwarf opened the door. Immediately, stinking, stale air hit his nose. He wondered what was expecting him behind this door, way below ground. If only he could climb up the stairs again towards the light. Did he have to go down into this endless dungeon that held him prisoner. He didn't even remember anything before. "Light! Only light!". He moved along the stony floor. The dwarf put the torch into a holder and a rectangular room with an arched ceiling from which water was dripping, was illuminated. Various devices and tools were arranged along the walls and hung from the ceiling. In the center there was some sort of bed with curious features. The floor was slightly tilted towards the center so that any kind of liquids would flow there and disappear in a gutter.

"Geh schon!" donnerte er und stiess ihn mit dem Peitschenstiel in den Rücken, dass er ein weiteres Mal fiel. Diesmal stoppte einige massive Eichentür den Fall. Benommen blieb er liegen und starrte in ein staubverhangenes Spinnennetz. Etwa huschte piepsend über seine Hand. Dann stellte der Grosse ihn auf die Füsse und der Zwerg öffnete die knarrende Tür. Sofort ging ihm stinkende, abgestandene Luft in die Nase. Er fragte sich, was ihn hinter dieser Tür erwarten würde, weit unter der Erde. Könnte er doch noch einmal die Treppe nach oben steigen, wo es hell sein würde. Musste er denn diesen unendlichen Weg in dieses Gewölbe gehen, in dem er sich verfangen hatte. Er wusste nicht einmal mehr, was vorher war. "Licht! Nur Licht!". Er bewegte sich auf steinernem Boden. Der Zwerg steckte die Fackel in eine Halterung und ein rechteckiger Raum mit gewölbter Decke, von der Wasser tropfte, wurde ausgeleuchtet. Verschiedene Geräte und Werkzeuge waren an die Wand gestellt und aufgehängt. In der Mitte stand eine Art Liege aus Holz mit seltsamen Vorrichtungen dran. Der Boden war zur Mitte leicht gesenkt, so dass irgendwelche Flüssigkeiten wohl in die Mitte fliessen und in einem Ablaufrohr verschwinden würden.

Cuando los cineastas nos muestran un mundo nuevo, cuando nos cuentan nuevas historias, cuando aprendemos algo sobre nuestro complejo mundo, cuando seguimos la historia de nuestro héroe o nuestra heroína y compartimos su angustia y les seguimos con una sonrisa y con curiosidad, cuando la historia llega a su culminación y nosotros después de una hora o dos emergemos a la realidad y constatamos que nuestra mirada sobre el mundo ha cambiado, entonces nos gusta una película. Por eso nos alegramos de "La Paloma".

In any case, the fact that they let him carry out his performance nonetheless testifies to a certain degree of trust; along with munificence, this is another concept the artist gives special credence to in his work. Trust also plays a key role when the buyer of Yavuzsoy's lined paper drawings has to promise the artist to give them to anyone else who, upon seeing them, says they would also like to have one: a generous act in which Yavuzsoy calls the circulation of art goods into question. Since 2004, he has been creating the lined sheets of paper that strictly adhere to the DIN (German industry standard) norm of industrially manufactured writing paper. The artist draws his straight lines on white paper on an almost daily basis-freehand, but with an underlying "model" to go by-until the pencil he is using is depleted. The resulting drawing is the product of a machine-like virtuosity, without ever quite being able to attain to the industrial norm. But Yavuzsoy explains that he is not concerned with the idea of artist as machine: "People can always see that the paper is drawn by hand." What fascinates him more is the endlessness of the self-appointed task, in a state of dissolution and approaching the inexhaustible.

Vertrauen spielt auch dann eine zentrale Rolle, wenn der Käufer von Yavuzsoys Briefpapier-Zeichnungen dem Künstler versprechen muss, sie an jeden weiterzuverschenken, der bei ihrem Anblick äußert, auch ein Exemplar besitzen zu wollen. Ein generöser Akt, mit dem Yavuzsoy den Warenkreislauf der Kunst in Frage stellt. Seit 2004 produziert er jene linierten Blätter, die sich streng an die DIN-Norm von industriell hergestelltem Briefpapier anlehnen. Fast täglich zieht der Künstler freihändig, jedoch mit einem unterliegenden "Model" gerade Linien über weiße Blätter - solange bis sich der von ihm benutzte Stift erschöpft hat. The shift from a monumental scale to a much smaller scale also disturbs hierarchy: that which seemed immense and immutable becomes vulnerable and that which was insignificant becomes important. In these works two visions stand opposed : one a retrospective approach, and one that is more prospective but less concerned with permanency.

Le terme « excavation » fait aussi bien référence à des travaux de constructions, de voirie ou de forage, qu'à des opérations de fouilles archéologiques. Dans cette série, j'ai en quelque sorte cherché à réunir les deux acceptions du terme. Les montages réalisés sont issus de l'union de paysages dont les significations me semblaient antinomiques. J'ai travaillé à partir de lieux de conservation, dont l'histoire naturelle et humaine est très riche, puis avec des lieux déracinés évoquant diverses formes de disparitions. On y trouve notamment des combinaisons de nouveaux développements domiciliaires et de sites classés « Patrimoine mondial » par l'Unesco. J'ai aussi combiné des sites fossilifères à divers paysages façonnés par l'économie, comme des dépotoirs ou des mines. Ces paysages se fondent assez naturellement, car leur aspect bouleversé et dénudé les rapproche. Certains chantiers sont d'ailleurs dotés d'une puissance suggestive qui n'est pas sans rappeler celle des déserts naturels. Dans plusieurs montages, les différences d'échelles amènent le regard à glisser constamment d'une portion d'image à l'autre, rendant ainsi les compositions visuellement instables. Le passage d'une échelle monumentale à une échelle réduite bouleverse aussi les hiérarchies : ce qui semblait alors immense et immuable occupe une position de vulnérabilité, et ce qui était dérisoire et anecdotique devient important. En eux s'affrontent deux visions opposées : l'une évoquant une démarche rétrospective, l'autre relevant d'une attitude plus prospective, mais peu soucieuse des permanences.
