We are standing before the magnificent Basilica di Sant'Antonio, one of the most famous churches in Christianity. The church was erected between 1232 and the mid-fourteenth century to house the tomb of the saint, born in Lisbon in 1195 and deceased in Padua in 1231.

Siamo di fronte alla maestosa Basilica di Sant’Antonio, uno dei più celebri luoghi di culto del Cristianesimo. La chiesa fu eretta tra il 1232 e la metà del Trecento per custodire la tomba del santo, nato a Lisbona nel 1195 e morto a Padova nel 1231. Oggi è meta di migliaia di pellegrini. Al centro della piazza spicca uno dei capolavori di Donatello, il monumento a Erasmo da Narni, detto Gattamelata, condottiero della Repubblica di Venezia.

Il campanile in Piazza del Duomo è universalmente noto come Torre pendente ed è l'incontrastato simbolo di Pisa. Iniziato nel 1173, i lavori furono interrotti a causa del cedimento del terreno, a cui si deve l'inclinazione, poi ripresi nel 1275 e compiuti nella seconda metà del Trecento. 294 scalini conducono alla cima della torre, da dove Galileo Galilei effettuò esperimenti sulla gravità.
