Die Entscheidung der KP Chinas für Xi Jinping als Vizechef der Zentralen Militärkommission lässt die Hoffnung auf politische Reformen schwinden, meint die liberal-konservative Tageszeitung Corriere della Sera: "Denn über Xi Jinping steht natürlich die Partei. Sie hat gestern für sich die 'führende Rolle' beansprucht. ... Der neue Fünf-Jahres-Plan 2011 bis 2015 steht an, der zwar an Sowjet-Terminologie erinnert, doch völlig neue Herausforderungen enthält. Damit beabsichtigt Peking, sich 'relativ rasches und stabiles Wachstum' zu sichern, indem es wirtschaftliche Unausgewogenheiten mindert. Die Diskussionen über politische Reformen, die durch wiederholte Stellungnahmen von Premier Wen Jiabao und den Friedensnobelpreis für den Dissidenten Liu Xiaobo belebt worden waren, sind Schall und Rauch. ... Der Impuls zu Erneuerungen durch Xi Jinping wird der Rolle der Partei untergeordnet. Auch seiner berühmten Sängergattin, Peng Liyuan, wird nahegelegt, bescheidener aufzutreten, wie es sich für die Gemahlin einer Führungskraft ziemt."

The Communist Party's decision to appoint Xi Jinping to vice-president of the party's Central Military Commission quashes hopes of political reform in the country, the liberal-conservative daily Corriere della Sera writes: "Because Xi Jinping is naturally subordinate to the party. It claimed the 'leading role' for itself yesterday. ... The new five-year plan covering the years 2011 to 2015 is waiting to be implemented, and although the terminology may be reminiscent of the Soviet era it contains entirely new challenges. Beijing intends to secure 'relatively rapid and stable growth' by reducing economic imbalances. The debate about political reforms sparked by the repeated statements of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and all the talk about the Nobel Peace Prize for dissident Liu Xiaobo are nothing but hollow phrases. ... The impulse for change initiated by Xi Jinping will be subordinate to the role of the party. And his famous singer wife, Peng Liyuan, will be advised to tone down her performances, as befits the wife of a leader."

Avec la décision du Parti communiste chinois de nommer Xi Jinping vice-président de la Commission militaire centrale, l'espoir de réformes politiques s'amenuise, estime le quotidien libéral-conservateur Corriere della Sera : "Au-dessus de Xi, il y a bien sûr le Parti qui s'est arrogé le 'rôle directeur'. … On élabore le nouveau plan quinquennal 2011-2015 qui, sous des allures soviétiques, comporte des idées complètement nouvelles. Celui-ci doit permettre à Pékin de garantir une 'croissance relativement stable et rapide' en réduisant les déséquilibres économiques. Les discussions sur les réformes politiques, ravivées par les prises de position répétées du Premier ministre Wen Jiabao et l'attribution du prix Nobel de la paix au dissident Liu Xiaobo, ne sont que du vent. … Si Xi Jinping incite à l'innovation, il sera néanmoins soumis au rôle du Parti. Il a même été suggéré à sa femme, Peng Liyuan, chanteuse célèbre en Chine, de se montrer plus discrète, comme il sied à l'épouse d'un dirigeant."
