That's a tough one. A lot of the federal-provincial dynamic has taken place with the CCME, the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment. That has not been particularly productive at giving us environmental gains. It has probably led to better provincial-federal cooperation, but not to real environmental improvement. Unfortunately, a lot of the necessary cooperation to realize CEPA between the feds and the provinces has been focused in the CCME and not in CEPA.

Le terme « excavation » fait aussi bien référence à des travaux de constructions, de voirie ou de forage, qu'à des opérations de fouilles archéologiques. Dans cette série, j'ai en quelque sorte cherché à réunir les deux acceptions du terme. Les montages réalisés sont issus de l'union de paysages dont les significations me semblaient antinomiques. J'ai travaillé à partir de lieux de conservation, dont l'histoire naturelle et humaine est très riche, puis avec des lieux déracinés évoquant diverses formes de disparitions. On y trouve notamment des combinaisons de nouveaux développements domiciliaires et de sites classés « Patrimoine mondial » par l'Unesco. J'ai aussi combiné des sites fossilifères à divers paysages façonnés par l'économie, comme des dépotoirs ou des mines. Ces paysages se fondent assez naturellement, car leur aspect bouleversé et dénudé les rapproche. Certains chantiers sont d'ailleurs dotés d'une puissance suggestive qui n'est pas sans rappeler celle des déserts naturels. Dans plusieurs montages, les différences d'échelles amènent le regard à glisser constamment d'une portion d'image à l'autre, rendant ainsi les compositions visuellement instables. Le passage d'une échelle monumentale à une échelle réduite bouleverse aussi les hiérarchies : ce qui semblait alors immense et immuable occupe une position de vulnérabilité, et ce qui était dérisoire et anecdotique devient important. En eux s'affrontent deux visions opposées : l'une évoquant une démarche rétrospective, l'autre relevant d'une attitude plus prospective, mais peu soucieuse des permanences.

The first is the Aixirivall one, a fountain in the centre of the village popularly known as the “fountain of the village”, in which there are two dates engraved: 1877 (probably the date of construction) and 1958 (moment in which the Comú (local government) carried out improvement works). Just by the side, if you cross a wooden door, you can reach a small covered well, popularly known as “el pou”. Originally, when there was no running water, this was the place where people picked up water and washed their clothes.

Las condiciones de trabajo no son mejores, se espera que los trabajadores hagan dos turnos de permanencia cada semana, uno de Permanencia en Casa, que dura 11 horas y que no se paga y otro de 8 horas de Permanencia en Aeropuerto, por el que se pagan 30 euros, trabajando por 3 euros la hora después de los descuentos. This is the first book on freshwater fish and crustacean species found on Réunion Island. It is intended for naturalists, researchers, teachers or fishermen. It has been drawn up as a tool for administrators in charge of management and conservation of aquatic communities. The main features of the various aquatic habitats on Réunion are presented in the first part of the book, together with the species found in these habitats. Then comes the history of local ichthyology and species introductions, followed by the catalogue of all species found on the island, with 25 fish species and 10 decapod crustacean species. For each one, a data sheet gives a description of the animal, a commentary on its biology and ecology, as well as its distribution with a detailed map. Original photographs or drawings illustrate the species, and easy to use identification keys will help with species differentiation.

Des photos, inédites, ou des dessins sont proposés pour illustrer les espèces et des clés de détermination, simples, permettent d’apprendre à les différencier.

Unfortunately for Tawney Meiorin, a similar story wasn't fictional. She was hired as a forest firefighter by the Province of British Columbia. She did her work well until three years later when the province adopted a new series of fitness tests for forest firefighters. She passed three of the tests but failed the fourth one, a 2.5 kilometre run designed to test her aerobic fitness. Since her aerobic fitness fell below the minimum standard, Tawney Meiorin was fired. Tawney felt the test discriminated against women. How? Women have a lower aerobic capacity than most men and cannot increase their capacity - even with ample training - enough to meet the standard.

Malheureusement pour Tawney Meiorin, une histoire semblable lui est arrivée. Elle est embauchée comme pompière forestière par le gouvernement de la Colombie-Britannique. Elle fait bien son travail, mais elle perd son poste trois ans plus tard à la suite de l'adoption, par la province, d'une nouvelle série de tests de condition physique pour les pompiers forestiers. Après avoir réussi aux trois premiers tests, elle échoue au quatrième, une course de 2,5 kilomètres destinée à évaluer sa capacité aérobique. Comme elle n'atteint pas la norme minimale, c'est la fin de son emploi. Tawney estime que le test est discriminatoire pour les femmes. Pourquoi? Les femmes ont une capacité aérobique inférieure à celle de la plupart des hommes et ne peuvent pas augmenter suffisamment - même par un entraînement intensif - pour atteindre la norme établie.

When it switches to front-wheel drive, the front one – a multi-plate clutch at the transmission output – decouples the prop shaft. A dog clutch in the rear gear unit disconnects the drive to the rear wheels. This means the crown wheel, the pinion shaft and the prop shaft all stop moving and thus don’t generate any drag losses.
