Le Géoportail du MPO comprend plusieurs outils et services pour satisfaire les besoins d’un large éventail d’utilisateurs, autant internes qu’externes au MPO. Les outils disponibles sur ce site fournissent des vues dynamiques prédéfinies du MPO. Ces vues sont faites à partir de données du MPO combinées à des données provenant d’autres agences gouvernementales et privées. Le SIGAT Géo mit en place en 2003, dans son état actuel, ne répondait plus aux attentes du réseau municipal, ministères et organismes utilisateurs. La géomatisation est de plus en plus marquée dans les organisations municipales, mais les besoins diffèrent en fonction des types d’usagers. Des utilisateurs composés d’usagers non spécialisés, professionnels et experts provenant du réseau municipal donc les municipalités, MRC, Conférences Régionales des Élus (CRÉ), Ministères et Organisations (MO). Les usagers demandent de prendre en considération leur habilité à manipuler les outils de données géomatiques; souhaitent avoir accès à un guichet unique permettant d’accéder aux informations géographiques de plusieurs ministères et organismes; veulent télécharger rapidement et efficacement ces mêmes informations géographiques; et demandent une solution offrant souplesse en ayant la possibilité de combiner des informations provenant d’organisations externes dont celles du réseau municipal. Dans le but d’offrir à ses usagers une solution performante répondant à leurs attentes, le MAMROT met en place le « nouveau SIGAT Géo ». La nouvelle solution basée sur les technologies GoMap de GEOMAP GIS, FME de Safe Software, Oracle et Open Source permet, depuis l’automne 2009, aux usagers de faire des navigations simples permettant d’accéder à des cartes thématiques reliées à l’aménagement du territoire et aux domaines connexes; d’accéder à des fonctions de navigations, recherches, d’information et d’impression; de consulter des photographies aériennes et l’usager a le contrôle sur les couches d’information qu’il veut visualiser pour les thèmes rendus disponibles. Pour un navigateur avancé, en plus d’accéder aux cartes thématiques, il peut construire sa propre carte à partir des données disponibles dans SIGAT et d’autres données provenant d’organismes externes.

Ein Web 3D Service (W3DS) liefert die aufbereiteten Daten als 3D-Szenengraph an den Client. Die Visualisierung der OSM Daten in 3D erfolgt in einem Web Viewer (XNavigator), der speziell für die Darstellung der vom W3DS gelieferten Daten entwickelt wurde. Im Gegensatz zu Server-seitig gerenderten Bilddaten (wie bei typischen Web Map Services, z.B. www.osm-wms.de), ist mit den gestreamten Daten eine volle Interaktion und freie clientseitige Navigation möglich. Da alle Daten an den Rechner übertragen und dort gerendert werden, ist eine gute Internetanbindung und ein aktueller, leistungsfähiger Rechner mit eigener Grafikkarte nötig, um die Datenmenge verarbeiten zu können. Damit eignet sich das Verfahren besonders gut auch für Intranets.
