Le terme « excavation » fait aussi bien référence à des travaux de constructions, de voirie ou de forage, qu'à des opérations de fouilles archéologiques. Dans cette série, j'ai en quelque sorte cherché à réunir les deux acceptions du terme. Les montages réalisés sont issus de l'union de paysages dont les significations me semblaient antinomiques. J'ai travaillé à partir de lieux de conservation, dont l'histoire naturelle et humaine est très riche, puis avec des lieux déracinés évoquant diverses formes de disparitions. On y trouve notamment des combinaisons de nouveaux développements domiciliaires et de sites classés « Patrimoine mondial » par l'Unesco. J'ai aussi combiné des sites fossilifères à divers paysages façonnés par l'économie, comme des dépotoirs ou des mines. Ces paysages se fondent assez naturellement, car leur aspect bouleversé et dénudé les rapproche. Certains chantiers sont d'ailleurs dotés d'une puissance suggestive qui n'est pas sans rappeler celle des déserts naturels. Dans plusieurs montages, les différences d'échelles amènent le regard à glisser constamment d'une portion d'image à l'autre, rendant ainsi les compositions visuellement instables. Le passage d'une échelle monumentale à une échelle réduite bouleverse aussi les hiérarchies : ce qui semblait alors immense et immuable occupe une position de vulnérabilité, et ce qui était dérisoire et anecdotique devient important. En eux s'affrontent deux visions opposées : l'une évoquant une démarche rétrospective, l'autre relevant d'une attitude plus prospective, mais peu soucieuse des permanences.

When it switches to front-wheel drive, the front one – a multi-plate clutch at the transmission output – decouples the prop shaft. A dog clutch in the rear gear unit disconnects the drive to the rear wheels. This means the crown wheel, the pinion shaft and the prop shaft all stop moving and thus don’t generate any drag losses.

For each one, a data sheet gives a description of the animal, a commentary on its biology and ecology, as well as its distribution with a detailed map. Original photographs or drawings illustrate the species, and easy to use identification keys will help with species differentiation.

The first is the Aixirivall one, a fountain in the centre of the village popularly known as the “fountain of the village”, in which there are two dates engraved: 1877 (probably the date of construction) and 1958 (moment in which the Comú (local government) carried out improvement works). Just by the side, if you cross a wooden door, you can reach a small covered well, popularly known as “el pou”. Compared with front-wheel drive, quattro drive generally incurs a certain increase in fuel consumption. quattro with ultra technology eliminates around 60 percent of this with its innovative technology. In cars with longitudinally mounted engines, it’s the only system that operates with two clutches. When it switches to front-wheel drive, the front one – a multi-plate clutch at the transmission output – decouples the prop shaft. A dog clutch in the rear gear unit disconnects the drive to the rear wheels. This means the crown wheel, the pinion shaft and the prop shaft all stop moving and thus don’t generate any drag losses.

That's a tough one. A lot of the federal-provincial dynamic has taken place with the CCME, the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment. That has not been particularly productive at giving us environmental gains. It has probably led to better provincial-federal cooperation, but not to real environmental improvement. Unfortunately, a lot of the necessary cooperation to realize CEPA between the feds and the provinces has been focused in the CCME and not in CEPA.

C'est une question difficile. La dynamique fédérale-provinciale émane en partie du CCME, le Conseil canadien des ministres de l'environnement. Il ne nous a pas particulièrement donné de gains environnementaux mais a probablement amélioré la coopération fédérale-provinciale. Hélas, la coopération nécessaire entre les gouvernements fédéral et provinciaux pour mettre en oeuvre la LCPE a surtout été concentrée au CCME au lieu de la LCPE.

Le terme « excavation » fait aussi bien référence à des travaux de constructions, de voirie ou de forage, qu'à des opérations de fouilles archéologiques. Dans cette série, j'ai en quelque sorte cherché à réunir les deux acceptions du terme. Les montages réalisés sont issus de l'union de paysages dont les significations me semblaient antinomiques. J'ai travaillé à partir de lieux de conservation, dont l'histoire naturelle et humaine est très riche, puis avec des lieux déracinés évoquant diverses formes de disparitions. On y trouve notamment des combinaisons de nouveaux développements domiciliaires et de sites classés « Patrimoine mondial » par l'Unesco. J'ai aussi combiné des sites fossilifères à divers paysages façonnés par l'économie, comme des dépotoirs ou des mines. Ces paysages se fondent assez naturellement, car leur aspect bouleversé et dénudé les rapproche. Certains chantiers sont d'ailleurs dotés d'une puissance suggestive qui n'est pas sans rappeler celle des déserts naturels. Dans plusieurs montages, les différences d'échelles amènent le regard à glisser constamment d'une portion d'image à l'autre, rendant ainsi les compositions visuellement instables. Le passage d'une échelle monumentale à une échelle réduite bouleverse aussi les hiérarchies : ce qui semblait alors immense et immuable occupe une position de vulnérabilité, et ce qui était dérisoire et anecdotique devient important. En eux s'affrontent deux visions opposées : l'une évoquant une démarche rétrospective, l'autre relevant d'une attitude plus prospective, mais peu soucieuse des permanences.
